Well, lemme tell ya somethin’ about Coach Fred Hoiberg and his son Sam. It’s a real special story, I reckon. You see, Coach Fred, the big man in charge of the Nebraska Cornhuskers basketball team, ain’t just got a job coachin’ a bunch of young fellas, he’s also teachin’ his own son, Sam Hoiberg. Yep, that’s right, Sam is right there on the team, playin’ for his dad. Ain’t that somethin’?
Now, this young feller, Sam, he’s been out there on the court for Nebraska, playin’ in 32 games so far. He’s been workin’ hard, but don’t let that fool ya, he ain’t no superstar just yet. He’s puttin’ up about 3.4 points per game, and grabbin’ around 2.9 rebounds. On top of that, he’s also dish’n out about 1.8 assists per game. Ain’t too shabby for a young boy just tryin’ to find his feet out there on the big stage.
And as for his shootin’? Well, he’s hittin’ about 37% of his shots from the field. Not great, but hey, it’s all a learnin’ process. Like they say, you can’t expect a young’un to hit the bullseye every time, but with a little bit of time and a lot of hard work, he’ll get there. This ain’t just any regular ol’ basketball team either, it’s the Cornhuskers, so you know the pressure’s on.
Sam was born on March 21, 2003, over in Chicago, Illinois. Yep, that’s where he started his journey, but now he’s over at Nebraska, playin’ for the team and his ol’ man. I reckon it must be somethin’ mighty special, havin’ your daddy coach ya up in front of all them folks watchin’. Not every young feller gets to have his daddy on the sidelines, tellin’ him what to do. Must be a proud moment for Coach Fred, too, seein’ his own boy out there on the court, carryin’ the family name with pride.
Now, Fred Hoiberg, well, he ain’t just any coach. He’s been around the block, folks. He was named the 2024 Big Ten Coach of the Year, and Nebraska thought so highly of him, they went ahead and gave him a contract extension. Seems like he’s doin’ something right with the team, and I reckon it helps havin’ a family full of folks who know a thing or two about basketball. Fred and his wife Carol got a whole bunch of kids—four of ’em! There’s Paige, Jack, Sam, and Charlie. They sure got a full house over there!
But let’s not forget, Coach Fred ain’t just a dad, he’s also a coach, and he’s doin’ a mighty fine job. With Sam out there and the rest of the team, they’re all workin’ toward somethin’ special. It’s clear that Fred knows how to get the best outta his players, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Sam turns out to be a big ol’ star someday, followin’ in his daddy’s footsteps.
So, you just wait and see. With ol’ Coach Fred teachin’ him and the rest of the team helpin’ him along, Sam’s bound to get better, and who knows, maybe one day he’ll be a key player on the Cornhuskers and make his family proud. Ain’t that what it’s all about, after all? Family, hard work, and a little bit of hoopin’!
