Well, let me tell ya, the OU football team’s been through a bit of a rough patch lately, especially when it comes to injuries. You know, them boys been workin’ hard, but not all of ’em been lucky, that’s for sure. Coach Brent Venables, he sure had a lot to say about it this week during his show. He gave us a full update on who’s hurt and who’s gettin’ better. And, well, some of these injuries sure don’t sound too good.
First off, they got a real problem with their wide receivers. You know, the folks who catch the ball and run down the field. Andrel Anthony, he’s one of ‘em. Poor fella hurt his knee real bad last season, right when they was playin’ against Texas. That knocked him out for the rest of the season, but he’s been workin’ hard to get back in shape. Coach Venables says he’s makin’ progress, though, and he’s hopin’ to see Anthony back on the field soon. Now, if they can get him fully back, it could really help the team, no doubt about it.
Then there’s Deion Burks, another wide receiver. Last game, he got hurt too, so he’s been a bit of a worry. But, we’re hopin’ he’ll be back soon enough. The way Coach Venables talks about ‘em, he’s holdin’ out some hope that they’ll be good to go after this bye week before the big game with Texas. ‘Course, if them boys ain’t out there, that’s a real shame for the team. You need your receivers, don’t ya?
And don’t forget about that young fella, Taylor Tatum. He’s a freshman, just startin’ out, and he’s been showin’ some promise. But, he too got caught up in the injury mess. Now, we don’t know exactly how long he’ll be out, but it’s another piece of bad news for the team.
Now, it ain’t all bad news. There’s some good updates too. You know, it ain’t all just them injuries. Coach Venables did say that he’s seein’ some good signs out there, even though things ain’t perfect. The offensive line’s been workin’ hard, even though they lost Geirean Hatchett for the rest of the season. That’s a tough one, since he’s out for the whole year due to an injury. That’s a big loss for the team, but they’re gonna have to work with what they got.
And, I gotta say, they did win their game against Houston, even though it wasn’t the prettiest win. They scraped by with a 16-12 victory, but a win’s a win, right? And right now, they gotta take whatever they can get, specially with all these injuries. The Sooners are now 2-0 on the season, so it ain’t all bad. But, folks are hopin’ they’ll be in better shape when they face Texas in that big Red River Rivalry coming up. That’s gonna be a tough one, for sure.
All in all, things ain’t perfect, but Coach Venables seems to think they’ll be alright. He’s got a lot of work to do to get all them boys back healthy. But, if they can get ‘em back on the field, and get ‘em playin’ like they know how, the Sooners could still have a good season ahead. Ain’t no doubt about that. So, we just gotta keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best.
