Well, now, let me tell ya ’bout this young fella named Ethan Petry. He’s a baseball player, y’know, real good at it, too. Played in them fancy All-American games, the kind of thing folks like to talk about. In 2021, he played at Coors Field in Denver, real big deal. They say he hit a .402, which means he was hittin’ the ball just right. Not bad for a young’un, if you ask me. He scored 80 runs, got 29 doubles, three triples, and 12 home runs. That’s quite a bit for a high school kid, if ya ask me.
Now, if you’re wonderin’ what all them fancy numbers mean, I’ll tell ya straight. That .402 batting average means when he got up to bat, he was hittin’ it good, almost half the time! And them home runs? Well, that’s like the icing on the cake. Every time he hit one of them, the crowd went wild, I reckon. That boy sure made his mark, and the scouts noticed, too. They were lookin’ at him like hawks, both for hittin’ and pitchin’. They couldn’t decide what he was better at! Now that’s somethin’ to be proud of, right there.
Fast forward a bit, in March 2023, they put him on the USAB Stripes Team. That’s like bein’ picked for the big leagues, even though he ain’t in the majors yet. Just shows you how much talent he’s got. He’s also been part of South Carolina’s baseball team, the Gamecocks, since June 11. That’s where he’s takin’ his next big steps, right in the heart of the action.
Now, I’m sure y’all are curious ’bout his draft status. In 2022, they ranked him as the 374th best prospect, and that’s no small feat either. It means folks see a lotta potential in him. He comes from Cypress Creek High School down in Wesley Chapel, and don’t you know, that place has been turnin’ out some mighty good players. Just goes to show that talent can come from anywhere, even small towns like that.
And, as of right now, he’s playin’ real good. In fact, he’s leadin’ the whole dang league with a 1.192 OPS. Don’t ask me what OPS stands for, but I can tell ya it’s a good thing! And to top it off, he’s tied for second in the league for home runs. That’s no easy feat, I tell ya.
Of course, not every day is sunshine and roses. He did have a tough time in the preseason. They say he struggled a bit, but don’t you worry none. Every player has their rough patches, and it don’t mean they ain’t got what it takes. He’ll be back on top in no time, I’m sure of it.
So, all in all, Ethan Petry is one to watch. From his high school days hittin’ homers to now bein’ a key part of South Carolina’s team, he’s on a path to somethin’ special. You’ll be hearin’ more about him, that’s for sure. Just keep an eye out, and I reckon you won’t be disappointed.
