Alright, let’s talk about this mimicking crossword thing. You know, them puzzles in the newspapers? Yeah, them ones. I ain’t no fancy scholar or nothin’, but I do like to scribble a bit when I got the time. So, this mimicking thing, it keeps poppin’ up in them crosswords.
Now, I hear tell there’s lots of ways to say mimic. Like, copyin’ someone, ya know? Like, if my grandkid does somethin’ silly, I might do it right back at ‘em, just for laughs. That’s mimickin’, right? Or like, them birds outside? They be mimickin’ each other’s songs all the time. It’s just copyin’, plain and simple.
I saw somethin’ online, said there’s a bunch of answers for this word in them crosswords. Said somethin’ ’bout 3 letters, 4 letters, even 11 letters! Lordy, that’s a lot of letters for just copyin’ somethin’. They said stuff like “ALA,” whatever that is, and “APING,” like them monkeys in the zoo. And a real long one, “IMPERSONATING,” sounds mighty fancy, don’t it? But it all boils down to the same thing – pretendin’ to be someone or somethin’ else.
- They said “ALA” is a short one. Don’t know why, but seems like them crossword folks like short words.
- Then there’s “APING.” Like I said, monkeys do it. Kids do it too, copyin’ everything they see.
- And that big word, “IMPERSONATING.” That’s like pretendin’ to be someone important, maybe? Like on them TV shows.
Seems like this “mimicking” shows up a lot in them puzzles. More than 20 times, someone said. That’s a heap of mimickin’ if you ask me! They even got dates and names of newspapers where it showed up. Wall Street somethin’ or other. Fancy folks and their fancy papers. I just get mine from the corner store, and sometimes it’s got a crossword in it too. Good for passin’ the time, ya know? Keeps the brain workin’, even if it ain’t workin’ on nothin’ too important.
This online thing also said there’s other words that mean the same as mimicking. Like “ape,” yeah, them monkeys again, and “imitate,” and “mock.” Now, “mock” sounds a bit mean, like you’re makin’ fun of someone. But I guess it’s still kinda copyin’ them, right? Just depends on how you do it, whether you’re bein’ friendly or not.
They said “copy” is another word for it. Well, that makes sense. If you copy somethin’, you’re mimickin’ it, ain’t ya? Like if I copy a recipe from a cookbook, I’m mimickin’ what the chef did. Or if I write down what someone said, I’m copyin’ their words. It’s all just makin’ a copy of somethin’ in one way or another.
So, this mimicking crossword thing, it ain’t so complicated after all. It’s just about findin’ different words for copyin’ or pretendin’. Whether it’s “ALA” or “APING” or some long, fancy word, it all means the same thing. Just gotta use your noodle a little bit. And if you get stuck, well, there’s always someone who can help ya cheat a little. Don’t tell nobody I said that though! But that what the internet is good for after all.
And that’s all there is to it. Mimicking, copying, aping, it’s all the same. Just different words for doin’ the same thing. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go see if there’s any good crosswords in today’s paper. Maybe I’ll even find that “mimicking” one again.
