Alright, let’s talk about this soccer match, or football, whatever you wanna call it. FC Cincinnati versus C.F. Monterrey. Heard it was a big deal, lots of folks runnin’ around and kickin’ a ball.
So, this game, it happened on March 15th, 2024, down in Monterrey. They got this big stadium, Estadio BBVA, looks fancy on the TV. Heard it was packed, people yellin’ and screamin’. Don’t know why they get so worked up, but hey, to each their own. Monterrey was playin’ at home, so you know they had the advantage. Folks always play better when they got their own crowd cheerin’ for ‘em.
Now, about them lineups… that’s what the young’uns call the fellas who start the game. For Cincinnati, I heard tell they had this fella Schulte in the goal, stoppin’ the ball from goin’ in. Then there was Robinson, Miazga, and Murphy playin’ defense, kinda like the bodyguards, keepin’ the other team away. Yedlin and Orellano were runnin’ up and down the sides, and Nwobodo and Bucha in the middle, kickin’ the ball around. And up front, tryin’ to score, they had Baird. Heard he’s a good one, always tryin’ to get that ball in the net.
- Goalie: Schulte
- Defense: Robinson, Miazga, Murphy
- Midfield: Yedlin, Nwobodo, Bucha, Orellano
- Forwards: Baird
That’s what they call a 3-4-1-2 formation, sounds complicated, but it just means how they stand on the field. Three fellas in the back, four in the middle, and two up front. Kinda like how we used to set up for the church picnic, some folks on the food line, some on the drinks, and some entertainin’ the kids.
Now, Monterrey, they had their own fellas. Don’t remember all their names, too many funny soundin’ ones. But they had their goalie, their defense fellas, their middle fellas, and their scorin’ fellas too. It’s the same thing, just different names and faces. They were playin’ at home, so you know they were gonna be tough. Home crowd gives you extra energy, like a good cup of coffee in the mornin’.
The game itself, well, it was a back-and-forth thing. Heard Cincinnati had a tough time, Monterrey was pressin’ hard. There was this one fella from Cincinnati, Valenzuela, got a yellow card. Means he did somethin’ wrong, like talkin’ back to the ref or kickin’ someone when he shouldn’t. Reminds me of my grandson, always gettin’ into trouble.
Monterrey made some changes, substitutin’ players, bringin’ in fresh legs. That’s what they do when fellas get tired, put in some new ones to keep the energy up. Cincinnati, they were fightin’ hard, tryin’ to keep up. It wasn’t easy, playin’ away from home against a good team. But they kept at it, never gave up. That’s what you gotta do in life, just keep on keepin’ on, even when things get tough.
This whole thing was part of somethin’ called the CONCACAF Champions Cup. Big fancy name, means it’s a competition for the best teams in North America, Central America, and the Caribbean. Kinda like the county fair, but with more runnin’ and less pie eatin’. FC Cincinnati had played Monterrey before, on March 7th, so this was a rematch kinda thing. Guess they didn’t do so good the first time around, but that’s life. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.
Heard the game was streamed online, all these young’uns watchin’ it on their phones and computers. Don’t understand it myself, but that’s how they do things these days. Back in my day, we listened to the game on the radio, and that was good enough for us. But hey, times change, and you gotta keep up, or you’ll get left behind like an old mule in the field.
So, that’s the story of FC Cincinnati versus C.F. Monterrey. A bunch of fellas runnin’ around, kickin’ a ball, tryin’ to win a game. Sounds kinda silly when you put it like that, but folks seem to like it. Me? I’d rather sit on the porch with a glass of iced tea, but that’s just me.
