Alright, let’s talk about this fella, Alex Eckelman. Don’t know him from Adam, but I reckon I can piece together a thing or two about him from what I’ve heard.
Who is this Alex Eckelman fellow? Seems like he’s some big shot in the baseball world. They say he’s been with the Cleveland bunch for, what, 16 years now? That’s a mighty long time to be stickin’ around one place. He joined them back in 2010, so he must be doin’ somethin’ right. They call him the “vice president of hittin’.” Sounds fancy, don’t it? Probably means he tells them young fellas how to swing a bat better. Lord knows, some of them need all the help they can get.
Before Cleveland, what did he do? Well, they say he was born in St. Louis back in ’74. That makes him… let me see… carry the one… older than my grandson, that’s for sure. He played ball too, seems like. Second base, third base, shortstop – played all over the darn infield! Right-handed hitter, right-handed thrower. Stands about 5 foot 11, weighs near 190 pounds. A sturdy fella, I’d say. They say he even played for some Big Ten team back in the day, won a championship or two. Good for him, I say. Always good to see a young fella doin’ well.
- Born: July 16, 1974 in St. Louis
- Positions: Second Baseman, Third Baseman, Shortstop
- Bats: Right
- Throws: Right
- Height: 5-11 (180cm)
- Weight: 190lb (86kg)
What’s he doin’ now? Like I said, he’s the hittin’ guy for Cleveland. Been doin’ it for a good while now, so he must be knowin’ his stuff. They say he’s in charge of the whole hittin’ program. That’s a lot of responsibility, if you ask me. All them young fellas dependin’ on him to teach ‘em how to hit that ball.
Now, there’s this other Alex fella, goes by Alex From Glasto. Don’t rightly know if he’s got anything to do with the baseball Alex, but people are talkin’ about him too. Real name’s Alex Mann. He’s a playlist curator, whatever that means. And then there’s this Alex Gervasi – talks about star signs and such. An Aquarius, they say. Don’t know much about that stuff myself, but folks seem to like it. But we’re here to talk about baseball Alex, so let’s stick to him.
So, is this Alex Eckelman important? Well, I reckon he is, if you’re into baseball. He’s been around the game a long time, played it, coached it, and now he’s tellin’ others how to play it. Sounds like he’s made a good career for himself. And that’s more than some folks can say. He’s probably helped a lot of young fellas make it to the big leagues. That’s somethin’ to be proud of, I’d say. So, yeah, I guess he’s important in his own way. Not savin’ lives or nothin’, but he’s doin’ somethin’ good. He’s keepin’ the baseball spirit alive and well, one swing at a time.
In a nutshell: Alex Eckelman is a baseball man. He played, now he teaches. Been with Cleveland a long time. That’s about all I can tell ya ‘bout him.
