Well, let me tell ya ’bout them Pirates and Cubs. It ain’t always pretty, but it sure is somethin’ to watch. These fellas, they run around on that there diamond, hittin’ balls and catchin’ ’em. Sometimes they win, sometimes they lose. That’s just how it goes, ya know?
Them Pirates, they been around a long, long time. Folks call ’em the “Bucs” sometimes. They won a bunch of them World Series thingamajigs way back when. I ain’t seen none of them myself, but my old man used to talk about ’em. Said they was somethin’ special. Now, they got all these young whippersnappers playin’, tryin’ to make a name for themselves.
And then there’s the Cubs. Them fellas from Chicago. They got a history too, just like the Pirates. They ain’t won as much as the Pirates, but they got their fans, that’s for sure. Them Cubs fans, they stick with their team, through thick and thin. I seen ’em cheer even when they was losin’ by a mile. That’s somethin’, ain’t it?
These two teams, the Pirates and the Cubs, they play each other a lot. It’s like a little family feud, ya know? Sometimes it’s a real nail-biter, down to the last swing. Sometimes one team just clobbers the other one. That’s baseball for ya. You never know what’s gonna happen.
- One time, I saw this fella, Skenes, I think his name was, pitch for the Pirates. Struck out a whole bunch of them Cubs. Folks was cheerin’ like crazy. Then, this other fella, Grandal, he hit a home run and the Pirates won. It was somethin’ to see, let me tell ya.
- Another time, the Cubs was down, way down. Looked like they was gonna lose for sure. But then, they started hittin’ the ball all over the place. Scored a bunch of runs and came back and won the game. The fans went wild. Even I was jumpin’ up and down a little bit. Don’t tell nobody I said that.
- And then there was that game where nobody could score. Went on and on, nothin’ but zeros on the scoreboard. Finally, in the last inning, this fella Morel, he got a hit and drove in a run. The Cubs won 1-0. Can ya believe it? A whole game, and only one run scored.
Sometimes, them Pirates, they just beat the tar outta the Cubs. Like that one game, 12-0. Man, that was a whuppin’. They was hittin’ home runs and everything. Them Cubs fellas just couldn’t do nothin’ right that day. It happens, though. You can’t win ’em all.
The Cubs, they got some good hitters too. This fella Suzuki and that other fella Swanson, they can hit the ball a long ways. Seen ’em knock a few outta the park myself. When them fellas get goin’, the Cubs are tough to beat.
One time, I saw the Cubs come back in a game, and it wasn’t just any comeback, it was a real doozy. Folks were sayin’ it was the best one they’d seen in years. Made the whole place go nuts. That’s what makes baseball so fun, ya know? The comebacks, the close games, the excitement. It’s somethin’ special.
Now, I ain’t no expert or nothin’, but I know a good game when I see one. And these Pirates and Cubs, they play some good games. They got their ups and downs, just like everybody else. But they always give it their all, and that’s all ya can ask for. So, next time they’re playin’, tune in and watch. You might just see somethin’ special. And the Cubs, they done played a heap of games against the Pirates. More than ya can shake a stick at, I tell ya. Thousands of games, seems like. Sometimes they win, sometimes they lose. That’s baseball, ain’t it?
And let me tell you somethin’ else, they got these farm teams too. Little teams where the young fellas learn how to play. The Pirates got a bunch of ’em, all over the place. Even down in that Dominican Republic place. I ain’t never been there, but I heard it’s nice. Anyway, them farm teams, they’re important. That’s where the future stars come from. So, next time you’re watchin’ them Pirates or Cubs, remember where them fellas came from. They started out just like them young fellas on the farm teams, workin’ hard and dreamin’ of makin’ it to the big leagues.
So, that’s the story of them Pirates and Cubs, as best as I can tell it. They’re two good teams, with a lot of history. They play hard, they got good fans, and they always give ya somethin’ to watch. And that’s all that matters, ain’t it?
