Alright, let’s talk about this fella, Deion Sanders, and where he went to school. You know, that football fella, always flashin’ and talkin’ big. Folks keep askin’ where he got his learnin’, so let me tell you what I heard.
Now, I ain’t no fancy scholar, but I can piece things together. They say Deion, he played football real good, real fast. That boy could run like a scalded dog! First off, they say he went to some little school, a junior college, I think they called it. Jones County somethin’ or other. Jones County Junior College, that’s it. Guess he wasn’t ready for the big leagues right outta high school. Happens to the best of ‘em, you know? Even my boy Billy Bob, he had to repeat the third grade, twice!
- Jones County Junior College – That’s where he started, gettin’ his feet wet.
- Then he moved on up, like a chicken tryin’ to fly over the fence.
After that junior college, he went to a bigger place, Louisville. Yep, Louisville University. That’s where he really started makin’ a name for himself, catchin’ them footballs and runnin’ like the wind. They said he was a “stellar wide receiver”. Stellar! Sounds like somethin’ you’d see in the night sky, all sparkly and bright. He wasn’t there long, though, just two seasons. But two seasons was enough, seems like. He made a big splash, them folks in Louisville still talkin’ about him, I bet.
Now, I heard tell he didn’t finish up there, didn’t get that piece of paper they call a degree. Too busy runnin’ around catchin’ footballs, I guess. He went off to play professional, make the big bucks. Can’t blame him for that, can ya? Got to make a livin’ while you can. But some folks, they like that piece of paper, makes ‘em feel important. Me, I never needed no fancy paper to tell me how to plant potatoes or sew a quilt.
But then later, I hear he went back to school! Imagine that, an old fella like him goin’ back to books. Got himself a degree from Talladega College. See, it’s never too late, I always say. Even an old dog can learn new tricks, though it might take a bit longer. He finally got that paper, and good for him. Showed them young whippersnappers that learnin’ is important, no matter how old you are.
And then, he started coachin’, would you believe it? First at Jackson State University, and now he’s coachin’ at Colorado. Big-time coachin’, on the TV and everything. My grandson, he watches all the games, tells me all about it. Deion, he’s still flashin’ and talkin’ big, but now he’s teachin’ them young fellas how to play the game, and maybe how to get their learnin’ too. He’s probably tellin’ them, “Stay in school, kids! Don’t be like old Deion, runnin’ around without that piece of paper!”
So there you have it. Deion Sanders, a football star, went to Jones County Junior College, then Louisville, then later got his degree from Talladega College. And now he’s a coach, teachin’ and preachin’ the good word of football and education. He went all over the place, gettin’ his learnin’ here and there. Just like a bird flittin’ from branch to branch, pickin’ up seeds of knowledge along the way.
It’s a long and winding road, this life. Sometimes you go forward, sometimes you go back, sometimes you gotta stop and pick up a few things you missed along the way. Deion, he did it all, and now he’s tellin’ the tale. And that’s all there is to it, plain and simple.
