Yokohama F Marinos: The Pride of Japanese Football

Alright, let’s talk about this Yokohama F. Marinos, you know, the football team. I heard some folks chattin’ about ’em, so I figured I’d tell ya what I know, or what I reckon I know, anyways.

So, who are these Marinos folks? Well, they’re a bunch of fellas who kick a ball around, real good-like, in Japan. They play in somethin’ called the J1 League, which I guess is like the big leagues over there. These fellas ain’t new, been around for a good long while, since like, 1972, or so they say. That’s a heap of years, even more than I can remember!

They’re from a place called Yokohama, which is a big city, kinda like them hustle-bustle places you see on TV. Sounds fancy, but I bet they still got stray cats and weeds growin’ in cracks, just like everywhere else. This team, they used to be called Nissan Motors somethin’-somethin’, ’cause the car company, you know, Nissan, they owned ’em. Then, they joined up with another team in Yokohama, called the Flugels, and they became Yokohama F. Marinos. “Marinos” means “sailors” in some fancy language. Guess they like boats or somethin’.

Now, these Marinos fellas, they’re pretty good at kickin’ that ball. They won the big J1 League championship five times! That’s a lot, ain’t it? They almost won it a couple other times too, but came in second. Close but no cigar, as they say. This year, 2024, that’s their 52nd year playin’, and their 42nd year in the top league. That’s a long time to be kickin’ a ball, I tell ya.

  • They’re old: Been around since 1972.
  • They’re good: Won the championship five times.
  • They’re from Yokohama: A big city in Japan.
  • They used to be called somethin’ else: Nissan Motors somethin’-somethin’.
  • They joined up with another team: Yokohama Flugels.

I heard some fellas talkin’ ’bout a game they played against some other team, Kashima Antlers, I think it was. Folks were bettin’ on who’d win, you know, like they do. The smarty-pants fellas with their computers and numbers, they figured the Antlers might win 2-1, or maybe they’d tie 1-1. But wouldn’t you know it, the Marinos, they whooped ’em 4-1! Those number crunchers, they didn’t see that comin’. Only gave it a 2.4% chance. Shows ya, sometimes you just gotta trust your gut.

And how can ya watch these fellas play? Well, I heard you can see ’em on TV, or on that internet thingy. Some folks watch it on their phones, even! Imagine that, a whole game on somethin’ you can hold in your hand. Times sure have changed. There’s this thing called Sofascore, I heard ’em mention, that tells you the scores and stuff. Fancy, fancy.

This Nissan company, they still have a hand in things, I reckon. They help the team out, give ’em money and such. Guess it’s good for business, havin’ your name on a winnin’ team. Reminds me of them fellas who put their names on race cars. Same kinda deal, I guess.

So that’s the lowdown on Yokohama F. Marinos, as best as I can tell ya. They’re a bunch of fellas who play football real good, they’ve been around a long time, and they win a lot. And that’s all there is to it, ain’t it?

Yokohama F Marinos: The Pride of Japanese Football

They’re a Yokohama team playing Japanese footie. That J1 League is their playground. Been kicking that ball since ‘72. Nissan started em’ and then they joined up with another Yokohama team. Five-time champs they are, and always up in the top of the league. Sail on, Marinos! They play their games, folks bet, sometimes they win, sometimes they lose but mostly win. You can watch them on TV or your phone. That’s all this old lady knows.
