Alright, let’s talk about this young fella, Sam Bennet, and his golf thing. I don’t know much about golf, mind you, but I hear tell he’s a pretty good player, comes from some place in Texas, Madisonville, I think they said. Folks are makin’ a big fuss over him, so I figured I’d try and make sense of it all.
Now, they say Sam, he played golf in college, for somethin’ called Texas A&M. Big school, I reckon. He played there for five years, which sounds like a long time to be hittin’ little balls with a stick, but what do I know? They say he was real good, won some things, played like a champ, or whatever they call it in that fancy golf world.
- He played in that big Masters thing in 2023
- Started off real strong, no bogeys, whatever those are. Sounds like a good thing though, like not makin’ any mistakes.
- Finished the round with a 68, which I guess is pretty good, four under somethin’ or other.
Then, last year, in May, he decided to go pro. That means he’s gonna play golf for money, not just for fun, I guess. Now, you’d think bein’ good in college means you’d be rich playing golf, but apparently it ain’t that easy. They got this thing called a PGA Tour card, and you need it to play in the big leagues, kinda like needin’ a driver’s license to drive a car.
Sam, he don’t have one of them cards yet. It’s hard to get, even if you’re real good, like they say he is. So, he ain’t playin’ in that Masters thing again this year. Seems a shame, after doin’ so well last time, but that’s the way it is, I guess. You gotta earn your way, even in golf.
They also talk about how much money he’s made. Says he’s earned a whole bunch, somethin’ like four hundred and forty-six thousand dollars. That’s a lot of money, even if you split it up over a couple of years. Some of it was from that PGA Tour, whatever that is, and some from somethin’ called the Korn Ferry Tour. This year, so far, he’s made over a hundred and forty thousand dollars, most of it from that Korn Ferry thing. Don’t ask me what any of that means, I’m just tellin’ you what I heard.
Seems like turnin’ pro was a big deal for him, a “new chapter” they call it. Like startin’ a new book, I guess. It’s a whole different ballgame when you’re playin’ for money, gotta be a lot more pressure, I reckon. But Sam, he seems like a determined young fella, so I bet he’ll do just fine. He’s got talent, that much is clear, and he’s workin’ hard to make a name for himself in that golf world.
Now, I don’t know if he’ll ever be one of them famous golfers, the ones everybody knows, like that Tiger fella. But he’s doin’ alright for himself, and that’s somethin’ to be proud of. He’s from a small town, just like me, workin’ hard to make somethin’ of himself. That’s the American dream, ain’t it? Work hard, play hard, and maybe someday you’ll be rollin’ in dough, even if it’s just from hittin’ little white balls with a stick.
Anyways, that’s the story of Sam Bennet, as far as I can tell. He’s a good golfer, tryin’ to make it big. Wish him all the best, I do. Hope he gets that card thing and wins all them tournaments. And maybe someday, I’ll even understand what a bogey is.
Seems like this whole golf thing is more complicated than it looks. But then again, most things are.
