Well, let me tell you about this fella, Alexander Mattison. Folks are talkin’ ‘bout him, you know, in that fantasy football stuff. I don’t rightly understand it all, but my grandson, he’s always yappin’ about it. Says it’s important, this Mattison fella.
So, what’s the deal with this Mattison?
Seems like he’s a football player, runs with the ball, they call him a “running back”. My grandson says he’s supposed to be good, real good. But, lord have mercy, he ain’t been doin’ so hot lately. They were expectin’ big things, ya know? Like when you plant them prize-winning tomatoes and they just shrivel up on the vine. That’s kinda like Mattison, they say.
My grandson, he showed me some things on that phone of his. Said Mattison was runnin’ less, not gettin’ the ball much. Used to run a lot, now, not so much. It’s like feedin’ a chicken less grain, it ain’t gonna lay as many eggs, right? Same kinda thing, I reckon.
- They say he had some “rough matchups.” Don’t know what that means exactly, but sounds like he was playin’ against some tough fellas.
- Then there’s this talk about “fantasy points”. Sounds like make-believe money to me, but these folks get all worked up about it. And Mattison, he ain’t gettin’ enough of them fantasy points, that’s for sure.
But then, things got a little different. That other player, Jefferson, he got hurt or somethin’. So, they started givin’ Mattison the ball more. My grandson was happy as a pig in mud that day. Said Mattison got to run a whole bunch, 22 times he said. That’s a lot of runnin’, even for a young fella.
Is he good or not? That’s what everyone wants to know.
Some folks say he’s been doin’ good when they give him a chance. Like when the rooster finally gets to crow, he crows loud and proud. Mattison, he can run that ball when they let him. Got all them yards, they call ‘em “scrimmage yards”. Don’t ask me what that means, but sounds fancy.
But then, other times, he’s just…there. Like a scarecrow in the field, not doin’ much of anything. And that’s when folks start gettin’ all riled up. They want him to be the star, the big cheese, the…well, you get the idea. They want him to win them them fantasy games, so they can brag to their buddies, I guess.
My grandson, he’s always readin’ about if he should trade Mattison away, get another player. It’s like tradin’ a cow for a pig, you gotta figure out which one’s gonna give you more bacon, or milk, or whatever it is you need. He says there’s all these people, these “experts,” who try to guess if Mattison’s gonna be good or bad. Sounds like a fool’s errand to me, but what do I know? I just grow vegetables.
What’s gonna happen with Mattison? Well, that’s the million-dollar question, ain’t it?
Some folks say he’s gonna be great, a real “mid-round pick” they say. That means he’s good, but not the best, I think. Like a good, sturdy workhorse, not a fancy racehorse. They say he always did good when that other fella, Cook, wasn’t playin’. Filled in real nice, they say. So, maybe that’s what he needs, a chance to shine, like the sun after a long rain.
But then again, maybe he’s just gonna be a disappointment. Like a water well that dries up in the summer. You expect water, you get nothin’. That’s what folks are afraid of, I reckon. They don’t want to be left high and dry with a player who ain’t gonna do nothin’.
Anyways, that’s what I hear about this Alexander Mattison fella. He’s a football player, sometimes good, sometimes not so good. Folks are hopin’ he’ll be good, real good, but only time will tell, I guess. Just like waitin’ for them tomatoes to ripen, you gotta be patient and see what happens. And in the meantime, my grandson will keep yappin’ about them fantasy points and trades and all that hullabaloo. Lord have mercy.
And that’s all I got to say about that.
