Alright, let’s talk about this 2016-17 football championship thing. I don’t know much about fancy football talk, but I can tell you what happened, you know, in my own words.
So, this was the first time they called it the “EFL Championship,” somethin’ about Sky Bet sponsorin’ it. Whatever. It was the twenty-fifth time they did the league this way, with a bunch of teams kickin’ the ball around.
Teams and Stuff
Now, there were 24 teams, a whole heap of ’em. Some stayed from the year before, some got kicked down from the Premier League, the big fancy league, and some climbed up from League One, the one below. This 2016-17 Football League Championship season was a real hodgepodge.
- Newcastle United was the big winner, top of the heap. They got themselves back up to that Premier League, the big time, y’know?
- There was this fella, Chris Wood, playin’ for Leeds United. He kicked the ball into the net 27 times, more than anyone else. Good for him, I say. He was the Leading League goalscorer.
They played a lot of games, 46 of ’em I heard. Win, you get three points, tie, you get one, and lose, well, you get nothin’. Just like life, ain’t it? At the end of it all, the best teams go up, and the worst, well, I guess they stay put or go down.
The Playoffs, Whatever That Means
Now, some teams, from third to sixth place, they did somethin’ called “play-offs.” Sounded complicated to me. They played each other, two games, and the winner, Huddersfield Town this time, they got to go up to the Premier League too. Must’ve been excitin’ for them. They won on aggregate score over two legs, whatever that means, must’ve won by a lot!
More People Watchin’
I heard more folks were watchin’ these games, especially when teams came down from that Premier League. Guess people like watchin’ the big names, even if they’re not doin’ so hot.
Newcastle’s Story
This was Newcastle’s second time in this Championship in the 2000s. Big team like that, you wouldn’t think they’d be there, but hey, that’s football for ya. They were the winner of the Championship, they were, so good on ‘em!
Checkin’ the Scores and Standings
You could see all the scores and who was where on somethin’ called *. And Sports Mole had the table, showin’ who was winnin’ and losin’. Fancy stuff, these youngsters and their computers. People were always checkin’ the Championship table 2016.
The Big League and Its Winners
Now, this Championship, it ain’t the biggest one. That Premier League, that’s where the real money and fame are. Since that league started in 1992, only a few teams won it. Manchester United, they won a whole bunch, then there’s Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, Blackburn Rovers, and even Leicester City and Liverpool. You want to be up there with them big boys, that’s where you wanna be. That Premier league is part of the Champions League 2016-17 Table too, I hear.
And that’s pretty much it, what I know about that 2016-17 Championship. A bunch of teams kickin’ a ball, some winnin’, some losin’, and some goin’ up or down. Just like life, I tell ya, just like life.
