Well, let me tell you somethin’ ’bout this boy, Cameron Epps. Folks been talkin’ ’bout him, so I figured I’d chime in, you know? He’s playin’ that football, that college football for that Oklahoma State team. Cowboys, they call ’em.
Now, I ain’t no expert, but from what I hear, this boy’s somethin’ else. He wasn’t always playin’ the same spot, you see. Started off as one of them cornerbacks, then they switched him over to safety. Big position change, gotta be smart back there, seein’ the whole field.
Seems like he’s doin’ alright, though. They were countin’ on him, needin’ him to step up, and he did. Had a couple of real good games there, made some big plays. Even got himself one of them awards, “Newcomer of the Week” they called it. Big 12, that’s the group they’re in. Heard tell he got two interceptions in one game, against that Kansas State team. First fella to do that since, well, since a long time ago, that’s for sure. And one of them interceptions, he ran it all the way back for a touchdown. A pick-six, they call it. Fancy, huh?
- He’s a redshirt freshman, means he sat out a year, learnin’ the ropes.
- He’s a tall fella, six-foot-three they say. Good size for that safety spot.
- He even had a game where he broke up two passes and got five tackles. Busy boy, that’s what he is.
Now, they were sayin’ he was gonna be a real big deal this year, 2024. But wouldn’t you know it, bad luck struck. Got himself hurt, tore somethin’ called an ACL in his knee. Happened in a game against BYU, only played a little bit. That’s a shame, that is. Injuries, they can ruin a career, just like that.
Before he got hurt, they was talkin’ about how important he was to the team. Other fellas gettin’ hurt too, so they really needed him. But that’s football, I guess. One minute you’re on top of the world, the next you’re on the sidelines. Heard tell there are only ten spots on those “best safeties” lists and he was real close to gettin’ on one of ’em.
But this boy, Cameron, he seems like a tough one. He put somethin’ on that “Instagram,” tellin’ folks he’d be back. Reckon he’ll work hard, get himself fixed up, and be back out there on that field. Gotta have grit, you know? Gotta have that fire in your belly to make it in this world, whether it’s football or farmin’. He will be back, he said. And I believe him.
He’s young yet, got plenty of time. This ain’t the end of the story for Cameron Epps, no sirree. He’ll be back, stronger than ever, mark my words. Just gotta give him time to heal up, that’s all. And when he does, those other teams better watch out. ‘Cause this boy, he’s got somethin’ special. He’s got that fight in him, that somethin’ extra. And that’s what makes a winner, y’know? That’s what makes a fella stand out from the crowd.
