Well, let me tell ya somethin’ about this Jim fella, the baseball pitcher. Seems like folks are always askin’ about him in them crossword puzzles. Jim who? Jim somebody, that’s who! They never make it easy, do they? Always gotta be a puzzle.
Now, I ain’t no fancy baseball expert, but I hear tell this Jim guy was a pretty big deal. Played a long time, I reckon. Folks keep talkin’ about him, so he musta been good. They say he won a bunch of them “Gold Gloves.” Sounds shiny! Must be worth somethin’. And three times! My goodness, that’s a lot of gloves. He musta had a whole closet full of ’em!
This crossword thing, it’s tricky, you know? They give you a little bit, like “Jim somethin’,” and then you gotta fill in the rest. Sometimes they say he wrote a book. “Ball Four,” I think they called it. In 1970, way back when. I was just a young’un then, barely remember it. But folks who like them baseball books, they seem to know it.
And this “Kitty” nickname? What’s that all about? A grown man called Kitty? Musta been a tough pitcher with a funny name, I guess. Or maybe he was gentle like a kitten off the field, who knows? These city folks and their nicknames, I tell ya…they’re somethin’ else.
- They say he was an MLB pitcher. That’s the big leagues, right?
- Lots of folks seem to remember him. Musta been on TV a lot.
- He’s got a whole bunch of answers in them crossword puzzle books. Forty, they say! That’s a whole heap of answers for one fella.
So, if you’re stuck on that crossword and it says “Jim somethin’ pitcher,” well, you got a few choices, it seems. They don’t make it easy, but that’s the fun of it, I suppose. Keeps your brain workin’, keeps you from gettin’ too old and forgetful.
I seen one of them crossword clues say somethin’ about “Hall of Fame.” That must be a real important place for them baseball players. If he’s in there, he musta been real, real good. Better than most, I’d say. Not like them fellas who just play for a year or two and then disappear.
And this “easy as pie” thing? What’s that got to do with Jim the pitcher? Crosswords are never easy as pie! They always try to trick ya with them words. But maybe that’s one of the answers, I dunno. Like I said, I ain’t no expert.
Seems like every time you turn around, there’s another crossword with Jim’s name in it. He must be famous. More famous than that fella who sells them chickens down the road, that’s for sure. And he played a long time ago, too! People still rememberin’ him after all these years. That’s somethin’, ain’t it?
So, next time you see that “Jim somethin’ pitcher” clue, don’t you go frettin’. Just think about them Gold Gloves, that “Ball Four” book, and maybe even that “Kitty” nickname. You’ll figure it out eventually. And if you don’t, well, there’s always someone who knows. Just ask around. Someone’s bound to remember old Jim, the baseball pitcher.
