They look at all sorts of numbers, like how many runs they scored, how many hits they got, all that jazz. Me? I just watch the game. You can see who’s playin’ good and who ain’t, plain as day.
- One thing them experts keep talkin’ about is the “money line.” Now, I ain’t got a clue what that really means, sounds like gamblin’ talk to me. They say somethin’ like, “Phillies are minus 155.” Beats me what that means, but I guess it means they think the Phillies are gonna win.
- Then they talk about who’s pitchin’. That’s the fella who throws the ball, you know. Some fellas throw harder, some fellas throw trickier. It’s important who’s pitchin’, that’s for sure. If your pitcher ain’t good, you ain’t gonna win many games, that’s the gospel truth.
This year, the Phillies, they’re doin’ alright. They won some games, lost some games. That’s baseball, you know. You ain’t gonna win ’em all. But these playoffs, they’re different. I heard some folks sayin’ the Mets were gonna beat ’em. The Mets, they’re from New York City. Big city, big team, lots of money. But the Phillies, they ain’t scared of no city slickers. They got good players too. They got fellas who can hit the ball a mile, fellas who can catch anything you throw at ’em, and fellas who can pitch a real humdinger.
Now, I ain’t gonna make no fancy predictions like them experts. But I will tell ya this: the Phillies, they got a good chance. They got a good team, good spirit, and they got the whole city of Philadelphia rootin’ for ’em. And that counts for somethin’, you know. When the crowd’s cheerin’ and the players are fightin’ hard, anything can happen. That’s the beauty of baseball.
So, will they win? Will they lose? I don’t know for sure. But I’ll be watchin’, that’s for sure. I’ll be cheerin’ ’em on, hopin’ they can do it. And if they do, well, that’ll be somethin’ special. That’ll be somethin’ to tell the grandkids about. And if they don’t? Well, they fought hard, and that’s all you can ask for. There’s always next year, ain’t there? That’s the way baseball is, always another game, always another chance.
These fellas playin’ for Philly, they gotta remember, it ain’t just about the money or the fame. It’s about playin’ hard, playin’ together, and makin’ the fans proud. That’s what matters. And if they do that, win or lose, they’ll be alright in my book.
