Well, let me tell ya ’bout them Alvarez brothers. I ain’t no scholar or nothin’, but I heard some things, ya know? Folks talkin’ ’round the fire, that kinda thing.
Seems like these brothers, they were a big deal, like them kings and queens from the old days. They wanted to build somethin’ big, somethin’ that would last. Like buildin’ a barn, but way, way bigger. They called it an empire, I think. Fancy word, huh? Empire this, empire that.
Now, how they did it? That’s a bit more complicated than plantin’ corn, let me tell ya. First off, ya gotta have folks on your side. Can’t build nothin’ alone, can ya? They needed a whole bunch of people, a whole team, like when the whole town gets together to raise a barn after a fire. They got themselves a bunch of them mages, you know, magic folks. Powerful ones too. They called ‘em the Spriggan 12. Twelve of the strongest magic users around. Sounded scary if you ask me.
- Got strong folks: They needed strong people, the kind that can lift heavy things, or in this case, fight hard. They had soldiers, lots of ‘em. Millions, they say. Two million, three hundred thousand! That’s more folks than I ever seen in my whole life. Imagine feedin’ all them mouths!
- Got weapons: And they didn’t just have pitchforks and shovels, no sir. They had magic weapons, and regular weapons too. Swords and such. And ships, lots of ‘em. To sail around and take over stuff, I guess. Like them pirates, but on a bigger scale.
- Gotta plan: Building somethin’ big takes plannin’. Like when ya gotta decide where to put the well, or which field to plant the corn in. They had to figure out who to fight, where to go, and how to keep hold of what they took. Lots of thinkin’, I reckon. More thinkin’ than I do when I decide what to make for supper.
I heard they was from some place called Alvarez. Not sure where that is. Maybe across the big water, where them fancy folks live. Anyway, they were tough, these Alvarez brothers and their folks. They went around takin’ over places, makin’ ’em part of their empire. Kinda like how the Johnson family keeps buyin’ up all the land around here. Only bigger. Much bigger.
Building an empire, it ain’t easy though. It’s like tryin’ to keep a whole bunch of chickens in a coop without ’em squawkin’ and fightin’. You gotta be strong, gotta be smart, and gotta be a little bit mean, I reckon. Can’t be all soft and gentle, or folks will walk all over ya. That’s what my pappy always used to say, bless his soul.
They say Spain was a small country back in the day, but they went and made themselves a big empire. Sailin’ around on boats and takin’ over places. Maybe the Alvarez brothers learned from them. Or maybe they just figured it out on their own. Folks have been buildin’ empires for a long time, seems like. Always wantin’ more land, more power, more everything. Don’t know why, myself. I’m happy with my little patch of land and my chickens.
So, these Alvarez brothers, they built their empire. Big and strong. But empires don’t last forever, do they? Just like that old oak tree down by the creek, even the biggest things fall down eventually. I hear tell their empire eventually came to an end too. Things change, ya know? Nothin’ stays the same forever. Just like the seasons, empires come and go. And that’s the story of them Alvarez brothers, as best as I can tell ya.
It’s kinda like makin’ a quilt, ya know? Takes a lot of pieces and a lot of work. And when it’s done, it’s somethin’ special. But even the best quilts wear out after a while. Same with empires, I guess. They’re made up of lots of different pieces, and they take a lot of work to put together and keep together. But they don’t last forever. Nothin’ does.
Anyway, that’s all I know about them Alvarez brothers. Like I said, I ain’t no scholar. Just a simple old woman who hears things and tries to make sense of ‘em.
