Alright, so you wanna hear about this Shohei Ohtani fella, huh? That baseball player everyone’s yappin’ about. Well, lemme tell ya what I heard, all jumbled up like my yarn basket, but I’ll try to make some sense of it.
Shohei Ohtani, the Hitting Machine
First off, they say this boy can hit the ball a country mile. Even when he was hurtin’, with his shoulder all messed up, they still put him in the lineup. That’s gotta mean somethin’, right? They call him a “designated hitter,” which sounds fancy, but it just means he gets to bat without havin’ to run around catchin’ balls all the time. And wouldn’t ya know it, he was so good at hittin’ that they gave him some big ol’ award, the “National League MVP” they called it. Must be somethin’ special, like winnin’ the blue ribbon at the county fair for the biggest pumpkin.
That Shoulder Problem
Now, about that shoulder. Seems like it was givin’ him some trouble. They said it was “partially dislocated.” Sounds painful, like when my old mule kicked me in the arm that one time. They had to do some “surgery” on him, which is like fixin’ a broken fence, but for people. But don’t you worry none, they say he’s doin’ better now. He’s started throwin’ again, gettin’ ready for the next season. They say he’ll be ready to hit when his team, the Los Angeles Dodgers, starts playin’ over in Japan next March. Japan, can you believe it? That’s a long ways away, even further than the feed store.
- Shoulder surgery
- Rehab program
- Ready to hit in Japan
Big Money, Big News
This fella, he ain’t just good at baseball, he’s also apparently made of money or somethin’. They gave him a contract so big, it makes my head spin. Seven hundred million dollars, they said! For ten years! I can’t even imagine that much money. You could buy all the chickens in the county with that, and still have enough left over for a brand-new tractor, maybe two! Heard it was the biggest contract in all of sports, ever. That’s what they said on the radio, anyway. They also said he’s the first fella from Japan to win some kinda home run title. And the first to win that MVP award more than once, and everybody agreed he deserved it, they called it “unanimous.” He’s a real record-breaker, this Ohtani.
Dodgers Superstar
They had a big to-do when he joined the Dodgers. A big “news conference” they called it. Like when the mayor comes to town to talk about the new road, but probably fancier. They talked for a whole thirty-two minutes, apparently. About how great he is and how he’s gonna help the Dodgers win all sorts of games. They keep callin’ him a “superstar.” Like one of them movie stars, but for baseball. Makes sense, I guess, with all that money and all those people cheerin’ for him.
Always in the News
Seems like every time I turn on the radio or that there television thingy, they’re talkin’ about Shohei Ohtani. They talk about his hittin’, his pitchin’, what he ate for breakfast, probably. They keep track of everything he does, it’s like he’s got a bunch of nosy neighbors watchin’ him all the time. They call it “comprehensive coverage” and “stayin’ up to date.” Well, I guess if you’re gettin’ paid all that money, people are gonna wanna know what you’re up to. They say the teams just wanna win games, and they think he’s the fella to help them do it.
So that’s the gist of it, as best as I can tell. Shohei Ohtani, the hitter, the hurt shoulder, the big money, the Dodgers superstar. He’s a busy fella, that’s for sure. And people sure do like to talk about him. Now, where did I put my glasses…? Can’t see a darn thing these days.
