Alright, let’s talk about this Jermaine Lawrence fella. I ain’t never seen him play, mind you, but I heard folks sayin’ he’s a big deal, a real tall drink of water, you know? They say he’s like, 6-10 or somethin’. That’s taller than my old corn stalks!
Now, they tell me he plays forward. Forward, backward, I don’t know much about these fancy sports positions. All I know is, if you’re that tall, you better be good at gettin’ that ball in the hoop. They say he’s real athletic too, runnin’ and jumpin’ all over the place. Reminds me of them youngins chasin’ chickens in the yard, all quick and jumpy.
- He’s from Queens, they say. Never been there myself. Heard it’s a big city, not like our quiet little town.
- And he weighs somethin’ like 210 pounds. That’s a hefty boy, ain’t he? Bigger than my prize-winning pumpkin, that’s for sure.
They also say he’s one of them fellas the NBA folks are lookin’ at. NBA, that’s the big leagues, right? Where the fellas make a whole lotta money. Good for him, I say. If he can make a livin’ throwin’ a ball around, more power to him.
Folks keep talkin’ ‘bout his “versatility”. That’s a big word, ain’t it? Means he can do a whole bunch of stuff on the court, I reckon. Like, he can run fast, jump high, shoot the ball, and probably do a whole lot of other things I don’t even understand. It’s like my old rooster, he can crow, he can peck, he can chase the hens, he’s versatile too, I guess.
Some folks were askin’ if he’s in that Hall of Fame thingy. I don’t know what that is, sounds fancy though. But they said he ain’t in it, not yet anyway. Maybe someday, if he keeps playin’ good, he’ll get in there. It’s like winnin’ the blue ribbon at the county fair, only bigger, I imagine.
This here Jermaine fella, he went to Manhattan Jaspers, whatever that is. Probably some fancy city school. They got his points and rebounds and all them numbers on some website. I ain’t got no computer, so I can’t be lookin’ at that stuff. But them numbers tell folks how good he is, I guess. Like how many eggs my hens lay, it shows if they’re good layers or not.
They say he’s a “major weapon” when he’s runnin’ fast. Sounds dangerous, don’t it? Like he’s gonna run right over them other fellas. Maybe he’s like a tractor in a field, just plowin’ through everything. I tell ya, these young fellas these days, they got so much energy.
Anyways, that’s all I know about this Jermaine Lawrence. Seems like a fine young man, all tall and strong. Hope he does well in that NBA thing, makes a good life for himself. Maybe he’ll even come back to our little town one day and visit. We could sure use a tall fella like him to help with the harvest. He can reach the high branches on the apple trees!
And that’s the long and short of it, just like my old plow horse, steady and gets the job done. Just what I heard from the folks around here, you know, the ones who follow these sports things. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go check on my chickens.
