Alright, let’s talk about this Florida State coach fella, ya know, the one headin’ up the football team. Don’t rightly know his name offhand, but he’s a big deal ’round these parts. Folks say he’s supposed to be some kind of football whiz.
This here coach, he’s been at Florida State for a spell now, since, what, 2019 or 2020? Time flies, I tell ya. Before that, he was coachin’ somewhere else, Memphis, I think. He’s bounced around a bit, coached at Arizona State, Pittsburgh, Tulsa, even some place called Central Arkansas. That’s a lot of places, ain’t it? Must know a thing or two about football, all that movin’ around.
He’s got a wife and a little girl, bless their hearts. That’s nice, a family man. A man needs his family. Anyways, back to the football. This coach guy, he had a real good season not too long ago, in 2023. Folks were sayin’ they hadn’t seen the team that good in years. Won all their regular games, even won that ACC championship thing. People were mighty proud, I tell ya. Lots of hollerin’ and cheerin’.
- They won some big games, that’s for sure.
- Folks were wearin’ them team colors everywhere.
- Even the grocery store was sellin’ them football-shaped cookies.
But then, somethin’ happened. They lost a big game, real bad. Got beat somethin’ awful, 52 to 3. Heard it was against Notre Dame. That ain’t right. Well, after that, the coach, he fired a bunch of his other coaches. The ones who help him, ya know? The coordinator fellas and the receiver coach. Guess he wasn’t too happy with ’em. Can’t say I blame him. When you lose that bad, somethin’ gotta change.
Now, he’s gone and hired a new fella to help with the offense. They say this new guy, he’s real smart ’bout football plays, some kinda “offensive innovator” they call him. Sounds fancy, don’t it? His name’s somethin’ like Gus Malzahn. He used to be a head coach himself, but he said coachin’ ain’t what it used to be, so he’s just helpin’ out now. Guess things change, even in football.
They got this other new coach too, Tim Harris Jr. He’s from Miami and he’s gonna be the pass game coordinator and work with them wide receiver fellas. So, seems like this head coach is tryin’ to shake things up, get the team back on track. That’s good, you gotta keep tryin’, can’t just sit around and mope.
This Florida State team, they play their games at a big stadium, Doak Campbell Stadium they call it. It’s a real big place, holds a whole lot of people. I seen it on TV once. Lots of seats and a big green field. That coach, he stands on the sidelines and yells at the players. That’s his job, I guess. Keepin’ ’em in line.
Florida State’s had other coaches before this one, of course. There was this fella, Bobby Bowden, coached for a long, long time. Won a whole bunch of games, they say. Over 300, somethin’ like that. That’s a lot of football games. And a couple other fellas, Tom Nugent and Bill Peterson, they coached the team in them bowl games, whatever them are.
So, this here current coach, he’s got big shoes to fill, I reckon. People ’round here, they expect the team to win. They love their Florida State football. And this coach, he’s gotta make sure they keep on winnin’. That’s his job. And if he don’t, well, they might just find themselves another coach. That’s just how it is with football, I guess. Win or go home.
But you know, it ain’t just about winnin’ all the time. It’s about them boys workin’ hard and playin’ together. That’s what really matters. And hopefully this coach, he understands that. He seems like a good fella, though. Got that fire in his belly. We’ll see what he does this season. I’ll be watchin’, that’s for sure. Even if I don’t understand all them fancy plays, I can still cheer for the team. Go Florida State!
