Alright, let’s talk about this football stuff, you know, the Fresno State football rivals. I ain’t no expert, but I watch the games, and I hear things.
First off, there’s them San Diego State folks, the Aztecs. They been fightin’ with Fresno State for ages, way back to when my grandpappy was just a young’un. They call it a rivalry, like two dogs fightin’ over a bone. They started playin’ way back in 1923, can ya believe it? Them Aztecs, they whupped Fresno State that first time. Score was 12-2, I think. Heard tell they played a bunch of times since then, maybe 52 or somethin’.
- San Diego State Aztecs: Them tough guys down south. Always a hard game.
- History: Been fightin’ a long, long time. Lots of games.
Then there’s this here “Oil Can” thing. Sounds funny, right? It’s like a trophy they fight over. This old oil can, from back in the 1930s, found it at a San Diego State buildin’ site. Imagine that! Some old oil can from Fresno ended up down there. Guess it means somethin’ to them football fellas, somethin’ about winnin’ and bragging rights, you know?
Now, there’s also them San Jose State Spartans. They call their game the “Battle for the Valley.” Another bunch of scrappers, always tryin’ to give Fresno State a hard time. Folks say it’s a real good game when they play. They’re gonna play next year too, but after that, who knows? No games signed up yet. Maybe they’re tired of fightin’ or somethin’.
Fresno State Bulldogs, that’s our team. They ain’t always the best, but they sure do try hard. Sometimes they win, sometimes they lose. That’s just how it goes. I always root for ‘em, even when they mess up. Got to support your own, right?
I hear folks talkin’ about all sorts of fancy numbers and rankings. SP+ this, FEI that, Sagarin somethin’ else. Sounds like a bunch of mumbo jumbo to me. All I care about is winnin’. Don’t matter how they get it done, long as they get it done. I just wanna see them Bulldogs score more points than the other guys.
Them Spartans, sometimes they mess up real bad. They be “shootin’ themselves in the foot,” like the fella on the radio said. Means they make dumb mistakes, I guess. Gives the Bulldogs a better chance, that’s for sure.
Then there’s the talk about the players, the big fellas up front, the ones blockin’ and runnin’. Heard some names, somethin’ like Myles Hinton and Josh Priebe. Big strong boys, I bet. Gotta have good players if you wanna win, ain’t no gettin’ around that.
Some folks say this Michigan and Ohio State game is the biggest rivalry, the bestest one ever. Michigan, they got more wins than anybody, been winnin’ forever. Well, that’s fine for them, but I’m worried ‘bout Fresno State. Them other games don’t matter much to me.
And this “Golden Screwdriver”? Heard tell it might just be a story, somethin’ folks made up. Maybe it’s real, maybe it ain’t. Doesn’t change the fact that Fresno State gotta go out there and play hard. Gotta fight for every yard, every point.
- San Jose State Spartans: Them other valley fellas. Always a tough fight.
- Battle for the Valley: That’s what they call it when Fresno and San Jose play. Sounds important.
- Winning: That’s all that matters, really.
So there you have it, my take on this Fresno State football rivals thing. It’s about fightin’, and winnin’, and bragging rights. It’s about supportin’ your team, even when they ain’t perfect. And mostly, it’s about good ol’ football, somethin’ to get excited about on a Saturday afternoon. Hope them Bulldogs win next time, that’s for sure.
