That Dustin Poirier, his ear, it ain’t right. I seen him on the TV, fightin’ and all. He’s a tough one, that fella, always in the UFC, that fightin’ thing. But his ear, it’s all messed up, like a cauliflower, all swollen and bumpy. They call it cauliflower ear, I heard.
He gets hit in the head a lot, that’s why. Punch, kick, whatever, right to the ear. That’s what happens in the Lightweight division, I guess. Lots of scrappin’. He’s been doin’ this UFC thing for a long time. He was born in, let me see…1989, I think. Makes him a young whipper-snapper still, but he’s been at it for years. They call him “The Diamond”. Shiny and tough, just like that messed up ear of his!
It’s all that grappling and boxing and kickboxing. They gotta do all that to fight, you know. And sometimes, wham! Right in the ear. That blood, it gets all blocked up in there, starts swellin’. Makes the ear look all funny. If they don’t take care of it, it gets hard like that, all lumpy. That’s what that cauliflower ear is.
- Gets hit in the ear too many times.
- Blood gets stuck.
- Ear puffs up.
- Gets hard and bumpy if they don’t fix it.
I saw this one fella on the internet, he wanted to touch Dustin’s ear! Can you believe it? Wanted to feel that cauliflower ear. People are strange, I tell ya. But that Dustin, he’s a good sport, always nice to folks, even with that ear lookin’ the way it does. I remember when he fought that one fella, Benoit Saint Denis at UFC 299. What a brawl that was! You know Dustin, he fights in a southpaw stance, stands kind of sideways. He is good at it. He fought him good.
That UFC, it’s a rough business. All them fellas in there, beatin’ on each other. I guess that’s why they’re all tough as nails. But you gotta wonder, is it worth it? Gettin’ your ear all messed up like that. I mean, I know it’s important to stand up for yourself and be a good fighter. But they got to put their health on the line everyday. Maybe it’s all that money they make.
He was some kinda champion once, that Dustin. An “Interim” champion, whatever that means. Probably means he was real good, for a little while at least. He’s tried to be the real champion a few times, but it ain’t worked out. He tried three times and never made it. But he keeps tryin’, that’s for sure. He’s a fighter, that one. Even with that cauliflower ear.
It’s that trauma, you know. That’s what they call it when you get hurt like that. Direct trauma to the ear. Means it gets hit real hard. And it happens over and over again. It’s like a wrestler, that’s why they also call it wrestler’s ear. All that grabbin’ and throwin’ around, someone’s bound to get hurt. I seen them wrestlers on the TV too, they get it just the same. They all have this problem, I think.
It’s the outer ear that gets messed up. That’s where all that blood gets trapped. There’s this stuff called cartilage in there, it’s like the soft bone in your nose. Well, that cartilage, it don’t get enough blood when the ear gets hit. Then it gets all inflamed. That means it’s swollen and sore. Then new, hard stuff grows in there, makin’ it look like a cauliflower. That’s how it goes.
So that Dustin Poirier, he’s a good fighter, no doubt. But that cauliflower ear, it’s a reminder that fightin’ ain’t all fun and games. It’s a tough life, that UFC. But he keeps goin’, that fella. He’s a tough one. Maybe one day he’ll be the real champion. And that cauliflower ear, well, maybe he won’t even notice it then!
I don’t know all them rules and stuff about UFC. But I do know that Dustin Poirier, he’s from Louisiana. I heard someone say that before, that makes him a southern boy, just like me! They say he’s tough as all get out, even with that cauliflower ear. He’s a good one, that Dustin. I always root for him when he’s on the TV, even if his ear looks a little funny. He fights hard, and that’s all that matters. He got that warrior spirit. Can’t nobody take that away from him, no sir!
You see, that ear is just a part of being a fighter. A war wound, you could say. Some folks, they might think it is ugly or something, but to a fighter, it is a badge of honor. That’s because every bump and bruise tells a story. Every fight leaves a mark. And that cauliflower ear, well, that is just one of Dustin Poirier’s stories. He will get more, for sure.
