Well, lemme tell ya somethin’ about that 1986 FSU football roster. Back in ’86, those Florida State Seminoles, they was a sight to see. Not like today, all fancy and such. They was a tough bunch, I tell ya.
That Bobby Bowden, he was the head coach. He was somethin’ else, that one. He knew how to get them boys fired up. They played hard, them Seminoles. They had some real good players back then. I remember they played in them big stadiums, all full of folks yellin’ and screamin’. It was a real hootenanny, I reckon.
Now, I ain’t no expert on all them fancy football terms. But I know a good team when I see one. And that 1986 team, they was good. They won some and they lost some, but they always gave it their all. That’s what matters, right? Giving it your all.
They played against some tough teams, too. I remember hearin’ ’bout them games on the radio. My old man, he’d listen to every one. He’d get so worked up, hollerin’ at the radio like them players could hear him. He loved them Seminoles. He went to the games a couple time.

They practiced real hard, I heard. Up and down that field, runnin’ and throwin’ that ball. Sweatin’ like pigs in the summer sun. But they was in good shape, them boys. You gotta be to play that game.
I don’t remember all the names, it was a long time ago, but there was a few that stuck with me. Some of them went on to play in the big leagues, the pros they called it. Made a lot of money, I reckon. More money than I’ve ever seen, that’s for sure.

They had a good record that year, 1986 Florida State football record. They won more than they lost. Beat some good teams, too. Indiana was one of them, beat ’em good. 27 to 13. I remember that score. Yep, beat some tough ones. But they had their bad days, too. Everybody has their bad days. Even them football players.

It was a different time back then. Things were simpler. People were simpler. But that football team, they was somethin’ special. I reckon they still talk about ’em down there in Florida. The 1986 FSU Seminoles. Yeah, they was somethin’.
They had a schedule, all written out nice and neat. Who they was gonna play and when. They traveled all over, playin’ different teams. Must have been excitin’, seein’ all them different places. I never did much travelin’ myself. Stayed right here mostly. But them boys, they saw some sights, I bet.
They had them guides, too. Little booklets with all the players’ names and pictures. Told you how big they was, how fast they could run. All that stuff. My old man, he had one of them. Kept it with his other treasures. Read it like it was the bible.

- And Memphis State, they played them too.
- Don’t forget about Kansas, Tulsa, and Miami.
- South Carolina too, lots of folks at that game.
That Bobby Bowden, he was a smart one. He knew how to put a team together. He knew how to win. He was a good coach. One of the best, they say. And he coached them Seminoles for a long time. Did a lot for that school, I reckon.
Yeah, that 1986 FSU football roster was somethin’ to remember. A good team, a good coach, and a good time. That’s what it was all about. Good times. Good, hard, football.
They had uniforms, all orange and garnet, I think. Looked sharp, them boys did. All dressed up and ready to play. They was proud to wear them uniforms. Proud to be Seminoles. And the folks in the stands, they was proud too. You could see it on their faces. All that cheerin’ and hollerin’. It was a sight to behold.
I may not know all the ins and outs of that game, but I know what I saw. And what I saw was a good team, playin’ their hearts out. And that’s somethin’ special. That’s somethin’ worth rememberin’. That 1986 FSU football team, they was somethin’ worth rememberin’.
