That Cliff Godwin, he sure is somethin’. I heard folks talkin’ ’bout him down at the general store the other day. Seems like he’s a big shot in that baseball world. He used to play, then he started tellin’ other folks how to play. That’s what they call a coach, I reckon.
He was at that UCF place first, you know. That’s one of them fancy colleges. Then he went on over to another one called Ole Miss. Sounds kinda funny to me, Ole Miss. But I guess he learned a thing or two there, helpin’ those young fellas with their baseball. That was back in 2014, time sure does fly, don’t it? They say he was a coach there, and also a recruiter, some big word. He goes around lookin for good players and gets them to go play for his team. He must have a silver tongue.
This Godwin fella, he’s been around, I tell ya. He’s been to a whole bunch of them NCAA Regionals. 14 of ’em, can you believe it? And even somethin’ called the College World Series, not just once, but twice! He must know a thing or two about that game. He goes to all these colleges teaching the young’uns how to play baseball. Smart fella, that Cliff.
He’s worked at a bunch of them colleges. LSU, that’s another one. Big fancy schools, all of ’em. Then, in 2015, he became the head honcho, the big cheese, at East Carolina University. That’s a mouthful, ain’t it? But it just means he’s the top coach there, the one callin’ all the shots. It’s like bein’ the boss of the whole farm. They say he’s been doing right by them boys over at East Carolina.
And get this, this Cliff Godwin, he used to go to that East Carolina place himself! He’s one of them East Carolina alum fellas. That means he went to school there. And now he’s back, leadin’ the team. It’s like comin’ back to your old stompin’ grounds. He went back there in June of 2014, after he was done at that Ole Miss place.
So, this Cliff Godwin, he left Ole Miss where he was just helpin’ out, and went to East Carolina to be the head coach. Big move, I’d say. Like goin’ from tendin’ the chickens to runnin’ the whole darn farm! He must be good at what he does.
- He was at UCF.
- Then Ole Miss.
- Then became head coach at East Carolina University.
- He is an East Carolina alum.
- 14 NCAA Regionals.
- Two College World Series.
Heard they did some kind of deal with him, a contract. You know, one of those papers that says how long he’s gonna stay there and how much money he is gonna make. It was two years ago, they extended it through 2029, they are gonna keep him around a while! And that money, you won’t believe it. It’s a lot. Good for him, though. He’s done well for himself. $600,000. That’s more than I have ever seen in my whole life.
That Cliff Godwin, he’s a busy bee, ain’t he? Always goin’ here and there, teachin’ them boys how to play ball. He’s seen a lot, been a lot of places. Thirteen of them NCAA Regionals, and two of them College World Series things. That’s a lot of baseball. And all them different colleges he’s worked at. He is some kind of big shot.
It’s all a bit much for a simple person like me to understand. But I tell ya what, that Cliff Godwin, he’s sure made a name for himself. He’s a real go-getter, that one. I reckon he’s done all right for himself. Yep, he’s done all right.
He must work real hard. Playin’ ball, then tellin’ others how to play ball. It’s a life, I suppose. I’m just glad I ain’t gotta do all that runnin’ around. I’m happy just sittin’ here, watchin’ the world go by. But that Cliff Godwin, he’s livin’ the big life. Good for him, I say. Good for him. He seems like a good egg.
I don’t know much about baseball, to be honest. But I know hard work when I see it. And that Cliff Godwin, he’s a hard worker. He’s put in his time, and now he’s reapin’ the rewards. He’s climbin’ that ladder of success. I hope he makes it all the way to the top. He deserves it, sounds like.
