This here’s ’bout that George Foreman, you know, the boxer fella. He’s been hitched more times than I can count on one hand, but this here is ’bout his first wife, Adrienne Calhoun. Heard they got hitched back in ’71, real young like. Seems like everyone was gettin’ married back then. They say that this Adrienne Calhoun met that George fella on some kinda blind date in 1970. Don’t know what that is, but sounds like a setup to me. Anyways, they got married less than two years after, I reckon.
I heard she was a good woman, that Adrienne. But that marriage, well, it didn’t last too long. Only ’bout three years, they say. ’71 to ’74, that’s all it was. I don’t know all the details, not my business to know, but I hear tell there might have been another woman in the picture. Some gal named Pamela Clay, she had his first son, I reckon, they call him George Foreman Jr. That kind of thing can break a marriage, you know. Poor Adrienne, she deserved better than that.
That George Foreman, he was somethin’ else back in the day. Knocked out Joe Frazier and Ken Norton, just like that! People thought he couldn’t be beat. But folks didn’t much like him then, they said he weren’t a popular champion. I don’t know ’bout all that, just what I heard.
- He was a big shot boxer, that’s for sure.
- Made a lot of money, too.
- Bought his mama a house, I heard. A real nice one, too.
Now, that Adrienne, she kinda disappeared after the divorce, she don’t want no spotlight. Nobody knows much ’bout her life now. But she was his first wife, that’s for sure. George Foreman first wife, that’s what they called her. After her, George got married again, to some beauty queen. Cynthia Lewis, her name was. Younger than him, too, by a good bit, eight years I reckon. That didn’t last long either, those things never do.
Heard he retired from boxing young, only 28, to go work for the Lord. Became a preacher, they say, at some church. The Church of the Lord Jesus Christ, I think it’s called. Been there since 1980, can you believe it? That’s a long time. He got a whole bunch of kids, too. George Jr., George III, all the way to George VI! And some girls, too. Natalie, Leola, Georgetta, Freeda, and Michi. I saw a picture of Georgetta with Michi, they look real nice together. That’s a whole lot of kids though, I tell you what.
But that first marriage, to Adrienne Calhoun, that was somethin’. Short and sweet, I guess you could say, though maybe not so sweet with all that other woman business. They say that George Foreman first wife was a big deal in his early life though. Helped him out, I reckon. Even when the marriage ended, I bet she still cared about him, deep down. Women are like that, you know.
- Adrienne Calhoun, she was the first.
- Married in ’71, divorced in ’74.
- Not a long marriage, but important, I reckon.
That’s all I know ’bout that George Foreman first wife, Adrienne. Not a lot of details, but enough to know she was there at the beginnin’. Before all the other wives and all them kids. She was the first, and that counts for somethin’, don’t it? Life’s funny that way. You never know how things are gonna turn out. One minute you’re married to a famous boxer, the next you’re just a memory. But a memory’s still somethin’, ain’t it?
I reckon that George Foreman, he’s had a full life. Boxing, preaching, all them wives and kids. But it all started somewhere, and it started with Adrienne. She might not be in the spotlight, but she played her part. And that’s all any of us can do, ain’t it? Just play our part and hope for the best. That’s what I always say, anyhow.
Well, I’ve said my piece. Hope you learned somethin’ ’bout that George Foreman first wife. It ain’t much, but it’s somethin’. And sometimes, somethin’ is all you need. Just a little somethin’ to remember someone by. That’s what I think, anyhow. And that’s all that matters, ain’t it? What an old woman like me thinks.
