Well, I reckon lots of folks been talkin’ ’bout that Phil Mickelson, that golfer fella. Wonderin’ if he’s gonna get another birdie. What’s a birdie, you ask? Shucks, it’s just somethin’ them golfers yell when they do good, I guess. I seen him on the TV, swingin’ that stick around. He’s gettin’ up there, kinda like me, but he still out there, chasin’ that little white ball.
Now, will he get another birdie? That’s the big question, ain’t it? He used to get ’em all the time, or so they say. He’s been playin’ golf for a long time, longer than some of you young’uns been alive. They say he even got paid a mountain of money by some fancy company called Callaway, just to use their sticks. More money than I ever seen in my whole life, that’s for sure. Forty-two million dollars a year! Can you imagine? Just for hittin’ a ball! Then he went to somethin’ called LIV Golf. Said to have made even more money there. Big spender, that Mickelson.
But lately, seems like them birdies are harder to come by. He ain’t as spry as he used to be, I reckon. Age catches up to all of us, even them fancy golf fellas. I heard he had a lead in some big game, five shots they called it, and then he went and lost it. Bogeyed, they say. Sounds like somethin’ you’d catch, not somethin’ you’d want in golf. Then this other fella, Oosty-somethin’, got a birdie and caught up. Just goes to show, you can’t rest on your laurels, not even in golf.
And don’t you believe all that talk about him bettin’ on the game. He says he didn’t, and I reckon a man’s word is his bond. He likes a friendly wager, sure, who doesn’t? But cheatin’? Nah, I don’t see it. He always seemed like a decent sort on the TV.
I seen a video on that YouTube thing, you know, the one with all them movin’ pictures? This young fella, Grant somethin’ or other, had Phil Mickelson on there, hittin’ balls with his irons. Looked like he still had a good swing, even if he is gettin’ on in years. But swingin’ good and gettin’ them birdies, well, that’s two different things, ain’t it?
- He started one day with a lead, one stroke, over another fella named Brooks.
- But then he bogeyed and Brooks got a birdie on the first hole. Right off the bat!
- He used to get a lot of birdies.
- Now it’s harder for him.
So, will Mickelson ever get another birdie? Well, I ain’t no fortune teller. But I’ll tell you what, that man’s got grit. He’s been doin’ this for a long time, and he ain’t givin’ up. He might be older, but he’s still got that fire in him. You can see it in his eyes when he’s linin’ up a shot. He ain’t done yet.
Maybe he’ll get another birdie, maybe he won’t. Golf’s a funny game. One day you’re on top of the world, the next you’re in the sand trap, or whatever they call it. But that’s the beauty of it, ain’t it? The uncertainty. Keeps you on your toes. Keeps you comin’ back for more. Keywords: Phil Mickelson, birdie, LIV Golf, Callaway
I think he’ll get one, he is not done yet. He got paid a lot, but still worked hard. But he is getting old, so it’s not easy for him. But I have faith in him, hope he can do it. Maybe he can surprise us all. Golf is a hard game. You never know what will happen.
He’s a good player, that Mickelson. He’s given us a lot of excitement over the years. And I reckon he’s got a few more surprises up his sleeve. So, don’t count him out just yet. He might just surprise us all. He is a slick one, after all. I seen it on TV.
He was at hole number 15 at 10-under. Whatever that means. I don’t know much about golf scoring. But it sounds good, don’t it? Ten under. Like he’s ten steps ahead of everyone else. Maybe he’ll get back there again. Maybe he’ll show them all that he’s still got it. I sure hope so. He’s fun to watch, that Phil Mickelson. And I, for one, am rootin’ for him to get that birdie.
