That Billy Beane, he’s a big shot now, ain’t he? Heard he’s the GM, some fancy word for the boss of them baseball fellers. Oakland Athletics, that’s the team. He’s been with ’em a long time, that Billy Beane.
They say he’s makin’ a whole heap of money now. Millions! Can you believe it? Back in my day, a dollar was a dollar. Now they’re throwin’ around millions like it’s nothin’.
Billy Beane’s Money
I heard someone say Billy Beane’s salary is somethin’ like $3 million a year. $3 million! Just for knowin’ about baseball. He must be real good at knowin’ about baseball, I reckon. And his net worth! They say it is 20 million dollars! This is too much money. I don’t understand it.
He gets to be the boss and gets paid all that money. And what do we get? We get to watch ’em on that television box, hittin’ that little ball around. It’s all a big game, ain’t it?
They say he’s worth a whole lot, that Billy Beane. Somethin’ called “net worth.” Sounds like somethin’ you’d catch fish with, but I guess it means how much money he’s got piled up. $20 million, they say!

Well, good for him, I suppose. He musta done somethin’ right to get all that. Still, it’s hard to imagine. $3 million for one year.

Some other team, the Boston Red Sox, they wanted him too. Offered him even more money, I heard. Somethin’ crazy, like $12.5 million. But he didn’t go! Why wouldn’t he go if they offer him so much money? Can you imagine? $12.5 million! He said no. He wanted to stay with his Oakland team. Loyalty, they call it. That’s nice, I guess.
This Boston fella, John Henry, he must really like Billy Beane. Said he was real good at his job, even though his team, them Oakland Athletics, they didn’t always win. Said it weren’t his fault. Said it was just bad luck or somethin’. Said they didn’t have enough money, maybe. I don’t know, it all sounds very complicated to me. But I do know $12.5 million is a lot of money.
But Billy Beane, he stayed put. Must be a good reason. Maybe he just likes it there in Oakland. Maybe he likes the sunshine. Maybe he didn’t want to move.
This whole baseball thing, it’s a big deal, ain’t it? Lots of money involved. Lots of people watchin’. It’s a whole different world from what I know. We didn’t have all this back in my day.

So this Billy Beane gm salary, it’s a big deal. He’s the “General Manager,” they call him. Sounds important. And $3 million a year, that’s important money. And that “net worth”, $20 million, that’s a mountain of money.
He must be a smart fella, that Billy Beane. Figurin’ out all them baseball things. Pickin’ the players, makin’ the deals. It’s a lot of responsibility, I reckon.
I still can’t get over that $3 million. That’s more money than I’ve seen in my whole life, all put together. And he gets that every year! Just for bein’ the boss of them baseball players.
Well, like I said, good for him. He worked hard, I suppose. Got himself a good job. Makin’ all that money. It’s the American dream, ain’t it?
Still, I think I’d rather have a good apple pie than $3 million. But that’s just me.
I don’t know much about baseball or being a GM, but it seems that Billy Beane is good at it. He must be smart. Or maybe he just got lucky. But he makes a lot of money, so he must be doing something right. I guess he is a good GM. Maybe the best. I don’t know. But he sure makes a lot of money.
