You know that Game of Thrones thing? That show everybody’s been yappin’ about? Well, I heard some folks talkin’ ’bout it down at the market, and they were goin’ on about some kinda crossword puzzle. Game of Thrones setting crossword, they called it. Now, I ain’t never been one for them fancy word games. I like my words plain and simple, like a good bowl of stew. But this Game of Thrones setting crossword thing got me thinkin’.

What’s the setting for this whole shebang, anyway? I heard ’em say somethin’ about Westeros. Sounds like a made-up place to me. Like somethin’ out of one of them old storybooks my grandkids read. They got all these places with names you can barely say. Like, there’s this place, King’s Landing, they talk about, where the big cheese, the king, I reckon, hangs his hat.
Fancy Names and Places
And what’s with all them houses? Not houses like where you and I live, mind you. These are like big families, all fightin’ and carryin’ on. There’s the Starks, up north where it’s cold enough to freeze your toes off. Then you got the Lannisters, all fancy and rich, like they got more money than sense. And them Targaryens, with their dragons and silver hair. Sounds like a whole lotta nonsense to me.
- Starks – Cold up north, always wearin’ furs.
- Lannisters – Rich as all get out, got gold every which way.
- Targaryens – Dragons, fire, and silver hair. Weird bunch.
I heard them folks at the market say there’s a big wall, too. Keeps out somethin’ called Wildlings. Sounds like a bunch of hooligans to me. Probably ain’t got no manners. This wall must be somethin’, though. I bet it’s bigger than my garden fence. And colder than a well-digger’s, you know, down south.
Then there’s this place called Essos. That’s across some big ocean, I reckon. They got all sorts of different folks over there, speakin’ different tongues. Sounds confusin’. I like it better here where everybody talks the same, even if we do argue a bit.
All That Fightin’
Now, this Game of Thrones setting crossword, it got me thinkin’ about all the fightin’ in that show. Swords and spears and what have you. Back in my day, we settled things with a good talkin’ to. Or maybe a pie in the face if someone was really bein’ a bother. But these folks, they go straight to killin’. It ain’t right.
And them dragons! Big ol’ lizards with wings, breathin’ fire. I saw a picture once. Scared the daylights outta me. I’d rather face a whole pack of wolves than one of them dragons. Imagine one of them things flyin’ around here. It’d burn the whole town down, hay, houses, and all.
This whole Game of Thrones thing, it’s a lot to take in. Kings and queens, knights and magic. It’s all a bit much for a simple person like me. I like my life plain and simple. Give me a good cup of coffee and a sunny day, and I’m happy.
Too Much Nonsense
But this Game of Thrones setting crossword, it seems to be popular. I hear folks talkin’ about it all the time. They try to figure out the clues, all them fancy words. I heard one fella say he found thirty answers, another said forty! Like it’s some kinda contest. I don’t know, seems like a lot of work for nothin’. Like churnin’ butter when the cream is sour.

Maybe I’m just gettin’ old. Maybe I don’t understand these young folks and their fancy games. But I think I’ll stick to my garden and my chickens. They don’t talk back, and they don’t breathe fire. And they sure don’t need no crossword puzzle to tell you where they belong.
This Game of Thrones, with all its kings and battles, it all seems so far away. Like a story from another world. Maybe that’s the point. Maybe it’s supposed to be a made-up place, somethin’ to dream about. But I reckon there’s enough to worry about in the real world without addin’ make-believe troubles to the mix.
All I know is, that I hope to make it to see my grandbabies grow up. I hope they see a better world than all this fighting and dragons. We should be working for a world where all people can get along and do their best. Now I have to go and see about some things, that crossword talk made me think a lot. Maybe it’s all just a big old crossword puzzle, and we’re all just tryin’ to find the answers. But I sure ain’t going to lose sleep over it!
