Okay, so, I wanted to get into MLB The Show 23, right? Figured I’d give it a shot, see what all the fuss is about. First thing I did was fire up the game and jump straight into a match. Big mistake. Huge. I was getting destroyed. Line drives were sailing past me, grounders were hopping over my head. It was a mess. I couldn’t even figure out how to dive!
So, I backed out, tail between my legs, and went digging through the menus. I headed to Settings, then Gameplay, and finally landed on Defense. Turns out, there’s a setting in there for diving controls. Who knew? You can choose whether you want to just press one button and let the game figure out if you should dive or jump, or, you can use one button for dive, one for jump. I went with the simpler option, because, let’s face it, I need all the help I can get.
I also discovered this “drifting ball” thing. I turned it on because, honestly, I couldn’t track the ball to save my life. With this thing on, it shows you exactly where the ball’s going to land. Makes things a whole lot easier.
- Dive: Press R1 or R2
- Drifting Ball: ON
After messing around with the settings, I decided to try a different approach at the plate, too. Instead of swinging at everything, I started taking the first couple of pitches. Just watched them go by. Got a feel for the pitcher, you know? And even after that, I only swung at pitches that looked juicy. Anything outside the middle of the plate, I let it go unless I had two strikes.
Then there’s this whole “Button Accuracy” thing. Basically, it means that every time you pick up the ball and throw it, you gotta be precise. There’s this little meter, and if you don’t hit the green part, your throw might end up in the dirt or way off target. It’s tough, but I started to get the hang of it after a while.
My little tips:
- Be a patient hitter.
- Watch the first pitch or two.
- Don’t swing at bad pitches.
It was a rough start, no doubt. But after fiddling with the controls and changing up my strategy, I started to see some improvement. Still got a long way to go, but hey, at least I’m not embarrassing myself out there anymore. Well, not as much, anyway.
So that’s my story. If you’re struggling with diving or hitting in MLB The Show 23, hopefully, my little adventure will help you out. It’s all about practice, patience, and not being afraid to mess around with the settings until you find what works for you. It’s a real fun game.
