Okay, so, I’ve been getting into baseball lately, and there’s this guy, Alec Bohm, plays for the Phillies. Every time this dude steps up to the plate, this song comes on, and it’s been bugging me because I couldn’t figure out what it was. So, I did what any normal person would do – I went on a little internet deep dive to find out.
First, I just straight-up searched “Alec Bohm walk up song.” Right away, I found out that it’s a Kanye West song called “Famous” from his album The Life of Pablo. I gave it a listen, and yeah, that’s definitely it. The part they play at the stadium is actually a sample from another song called “Bam Bam” by Sister Nancy. Pretty cool, I guess.
But then I stumbled upon something called a playlist dedicated to Alec Bohm’s walk-up songs, of all things. There were, like, six songs on it, and it had a decent amount of likes. I thought to myself, “Does this guy really change his song that much?” Turns out, yeah, he kinda does. There was even another song listed called “Lay Low” that he apparently used last season. I listened to it but it was nothing special.
I also found an article about how walk-up songs can tell you a lot about a player. Some folks seem to think they’re a big deal, you know, a way to show off your personality or something. I don’t know, I thought they were just random songs someone picked randomly. But there was one player, Bryson Stott, who also plays for the Phillies, apparently his song is some track called “A-O-K”, and fans are singing it all around the stadium. Weird to have such a hype song.
My Personal Take
Honestly, I don’t really get the whole walk-up song obsession. It’s just a few seconds of music before they get down to business. But hey, to each their own, right? I guess it’s all part of the baseball experience, like peanuts and cracker jacks, you know? For now I guess I’ll just stick with “Famous” and get familiar with it. But I get the feeling that I still have a long way to go to really understand this walk up song tradition.
