I’ve been itching to get a better look at the TPC Southwind course layout, you know, really understand the ins and outs of it. So I decided to dig in and see what I could find.
Scouting the Web
First things first, I started poking around online. I found a few options, like 2D and 3D planners, and even a mobile version. Cool stuff! There were also these yardage charts you could print out, which seemed handy. This could really help me get a detailed view of the course.
Interactive Maps and Aerial Views
Then I stumbled upon these interactive course maps. And they’ve got hole-by-hole layouts too! Man, these were a goldmine. You can actually get an aerial view of each hole and even see the GPS distances. Talk about getting the lay of the land! It really felt like I was there.
Getting the Location Right
I also learned that TPC Southwind is about a half-hour drive from downtown Memphis. It’s in this gated community called Southwind, which makes it seem pretty exclusive. This was good to know for planning a potential visit.
Comparing Courses
I got a bit carried away and started comparing data from different courses, like TPC Southwind, Sedgefield, and a few others. I even filtered some stats to see how they stack up against each other. It was interesting to see the similarities and differences.
Reading Reviews
Of course, I also checked out some reviews. One review was pretty blunt, saying TPC Southwind had a mix of boring and interesting holes. Hmm, guess it’s not perfect, but still worth checking out.
Membership and Design
Then I found out about the membership stuff. Apparently, it can be pretty pricey to join, but there’s a way for FedEx employees to get in for free. There’s also this TPC Passport program that lets members play at all TPC courses, which sounds awesome.
I also learned that the course was designed by a guy named Ron Prichard, with some help from a couple of pro golfers. It’s a par-70, 7,244-yard course, which is pretty substantial.
So, here’s what I did with all this info:
- Explored the interactive maps and aerial views to really get a feel for the course layout.
- Printed out some yardage charts to have a hard copy on hand.
- Compared TPC Southwind to other courses to see how it stacks up.
- Read some reviews to get different perspectives.
- Jotted down notes about the location, membership, and design of the course.
Man, it was a pretty deep dive into TPC Southwind. I feel like I know the course a lot better now, even without setting foot on it. Can’t wait to put this info to good use and finally try it out myself! This was a productive day.
