Today, I was looking for a new gig, you know, something to spice things up a bit. So, I stumbled upon this website, something about careers at Ryder. Yeah, that’s it, I thought, “Why not give it a shot?”
First things first, I typed into my browser, and bam, I was on their career page. The site was pretty straightforward, nothing too fancy, which is good because I ain’t no tech whiz. They had this big welcome message, I guess to make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I skipped that part; I was there for the jobs, not a pep talk.
They had a section where you could browse all their job openings. “Cool,” I thought, “Let’s see what they’ve got.” I started scrolling through the list. They had all sorts of positions, from drivers to mechanics, to some office jobs that I didn’t really understand. I was mostly interested in the driving jobs, ’cause that’s what I’m good at. I mean, I’ve been driving since I was a teenager, so I know my way around a truck.
I found a few positions that looked interesting, so I decided to check them out. They had these detailed descriptions of each job, you know, what you’d be doing, what kind of qualifications you needed, and all that jazz. It was pretty helpful, to be honest. I found this one job, a truck driver position, that seemed like a good fit for me. It required some experience, which I had, and a clean driving record, which I also had, thank goodness.
I clicked on the “Apply” button, figuring I’d just fill out a quick form and be done with it. Boy, was I wrong. They had this whole application process, where you had to create an account, upload your resume, answer a bunch of questions, and even do some assessments. It was a bit much, I gotta say. But hey, I figured it was worth it if it meant landing a good job. I mean, this Ryder company seems pretty big. They started in 1933 with just one truck and now they’re like this huge logistics and transportation company. That’s impressive, right?
So, I spent the next hour or so filling out the application. It was a bit tedious, but I powered through. I made sure to highlight my driving experience and my clean record. I even threw in a few buzzwords like “team player” and “hard worker,” you know, just to make myself sound good. I learned that they really care about their core values, things like trust, expertise, and safety. That’s something, I guess. They’re also into innovation and collaboration, which sounds fancy, but I’m not sure what it means in practice. They seem to care about the environment, too. Good for them, I suppose.
Finally, I submitted my application. Now, it’s just a waiting game. I hope I hear back from them soon. I did see they have this thing called a Driver Development Program. That might be something to look into later, maybe to up my skills and all that. I also noticed they have a recruiting calendar, so maybe I’ll check out some of their events. You never know, right?
Anyway, that’s my experience with the careers Ryder website. It was a bit of a process, but hopefully, it’ll be worth it in the end. Fingers crossed!
