Alright, so let me tell you about this little adventure I had with the Hogan Residence. I started digging into this place ’cause, why not? I heard it’s this cool old house designed by some guy named Douglas Rucker back in 1964. And apparently, it’s one of the few he did in Los Angeles. Interesting, right?

So, I got my hands on the original blueprints. Yeah, the actual blueprints! It felt like uncovering some hidden treasure. I pored over those things, trying to imagine what it was like building this place way back when. They definitely don’t make ’em like this anymore.
- First, I visited the place.
- Then I looked up everything I could find about Douglas Rucker. Turns out, he was mostly based in Malibu, not L.A. proper.
- After that, I started sketching out my own ideas, inspired by the original design.
I didn’t stop there, though. I decided to go down the rabbit hole and found out about the name “Hogan”. I even read some unrelated stuff about a famous wrestler, but that’s another story.
Trying to make the place a little better
My main thing was figuring out how to bring this old beauty into the 21st century without ruining its charm. It was like walking a tightrope, you know? I played around with different ideas, always going back to those blueprints to make sure I wasn’t straying too far from the original vision.
Honestly, it was a blast. I learned a ton about architecture, design, and a bit about the history of this place. It’s amazing how much you can pick up when you’re really into something. I even started thinking about maybe, just maybe, trying my hand at something like this myself one day.
Anyway, that’s the gist of it. It was a fun little project, and I figured I’d share it with you all. Hope you found it somewhat interesting! And who knows, maybe I inspired you guys a bit, too!
