Okay, so I saw this thing online about Patrick Mahomes’ helmet, and I just had to try it out myself. You know, the Kansas City Chiefs’ quarterback, the guy’s a legend!
My DIY Mahomes Helmet Project
I started by grabbing an old football helmet I had lying around. It wasn’t anything fancy, just a regular one. The first thing I did was give it a good clean. I scrubbed it down with soap and water, making sure to get rid of all the dust and grime. I mean, it’s no fun to paint dirty things! Once the helmet was dry, I taped up the areas I didn’t want to paint. This was mostly the inside padding and the face mask. I found that the blue painter’s tape worked best.
Next up, the fun part – painting! I got myself some spray paint in Chiefs red. I made sure to shake the can really well before I started. I applied the paint in thin, even coats. I did one layer, let it dry, then did another, and another. I think I ended up doing about three or four coats to get that perfect, vibrant red. I mean, you gotta get that real chiefs red color, right?
After the red was completely dry, I started on the details. I used some white paint and a small brush to add the Chiefs’ logo. I found a picture of it online and used that as a guide. I am not an artist but did my best to paint the logo. I took my time with this, making sure I got it just right. It’s the little things, you know?
- Cleaned the helmet thoroughly.
- Taped up the areas I didn’t want to paint.
- Applied several coats of red spray paint.
- Hand-painted the Chiefs’ logo with white paint.
- Let everything dry completely.
Then I let everything dry overnight. I wanted to make sure the paint was completely set before I did anything else. Finally, I removed the tape and, wow, it looked pretty awesome! It wasn’t perfect, but I was pretty proud of my work. It’s not like you are going to wear this on the field, but it looks amazing.
I even went the extra mile and added some of those stickers that players have on their helmets. I found some online that looked like the ones Mahomes wears. I stuck them on, and it really completed the look. I have heard that Patrick even has hair sticking out of the back, so I added some fake hair to copy that. I think I did a pretty good job of copying it.
It was a fun little project, and now I have a cool, custom-made Mahomes-style helmet to show off. It’s a great conversation starter, and it’s something I made with my own two hands. I mean, who else has one of these?
