Okay, here’s my blog post about the whole Margo Adams and Wade Boggs thing.
So, I was digging around the internet the other day, looking into some old baseball scandals, and I stumbled across this whole Wade Boggs and Margo Adams mess. It was a wild ride, let me tell you. It’s a classic tale of an affair, public scrutiny, and the fallout that comes with it.
I started by reading some old news articles from the late 80s. Apparently, Wade Boggs, who was a big-shot third baseman for the Boston Red Sox, got himself tangled up with this woman named Margo Adams. They were having an affair for about four years! I mean, four years, that’s a long time to keep something like that under wraps.
I found an article from June 11, 1989, that got into the nitty-gritty. It said that Boggs was getting pressure from his agent and was feeling all kinds of frustrated himself, but he just couldn’t end the affair. I guess he was really caught up with her.
- I kept digging and found that things got even messier.
- Margo Adams went public with the whole thing. She even wrote an article about it, accusing Boggs of some pretty nasty stuff, including a racist remark about his teammate, Jim Rice. It was a whole big drama.
Then, on December 12, 1989, there was news that Boggs and Adams had reached a settlement. She had sued him, and it sounds like he paid her off to keep things quiet. That didn’t stop him from admitting he was a “sex addict” though, which I saw mentioned in a couple of places, including a January 19, 1990 article.
A Complete Mess
The whole thing was a complete mess. It damaged Boggs’ reputation, caused problems with his team, and just created a lot of public drama. I spent hours going through articles, piecing the story together, and honestly, it felt like watching a soap opera unfold. I even found an article from March 5, 1989, that mentioned Margo Adams being his former mistress, which showed how quickly things turned sour.
It’s crazy how one bad decision can lead to so much trouble. This whole saga with Wade Boggs and Margo Adams is a perfect example of that. It also made me think about how different things were back then, before the internet and social media. A scandal like this would blow up even bigger today.
I wanted to write a blog and share what I learned with you all. Hope you guys found this trip down memory lane as interesting as I did. It’s definitely a story that sticks with you.
