Okay, so today I wanna talk about my journey finding a coach, specifically, my “zheng” coach. It wasn’t easy, man, let me tell you. It’s like trying to find a needle in a haystack, except the haystack is made of internet ads and promises.

First, I started like everyone else, I guess. I googled stuff. I typed in “zheng coach,” “best zheng coach online,” you name it. And guess what? A million results popped up! Everyone and their grandma claims to be a zheng expert these days. It was overwhelming. How the hell was I supposed to choose?
Then, I started to dig a bit deeper. I checked out a few websites, read some testimonials, you know, the usual. But I was still feeling lost. I mean, everyone says they’re great, but how do I know who’s actually legit?
So, I decided to get a bit more organized. I made a list of what I was actually looking for in a coach. I wanted someone who wouldn’t just teach me the notes, but someone who could help me understand the music, the soul of the zheng, you know?
I made the list with these questions in mind:
- How are they gonna figure out what I need?
- How are we gonna decide what I’m aiming for?
- How will we know if I’m making any progress?
- Will anyone else be involved?
- How do the coach report to me?
I started reaching out to a few coaches. I emailed them, asked them about their teaching style, their experience, and their approach. I wanted to get a feel for their personality too.
After a few weeks of this, I finally narrowed it down to two coaches. They both seemed really good, but I was still on the fence. I decided to take an initial lesson from each of them.
This is when I saw that I could find the best coach for me. The first one I met, that is awesome. We spent about 2 hours during the initial lesson and I found that he can actually fulfill my needs. Then I just booked the course from him and that’s how I found my zheng coach.
Finding a coach, especially online, takes time. But it’s worth it. You gotta put in the effort, ask the right questions, and trust your gut.

So yeah, that’s my story. Hope it helps someone out there who’s also on the hunt for a good coach. It ain’t easy, but it’s definitely doable!
