Man, I woke up feeling like absolute garbage. My throat was killing me, and I couldn’t stop coughing and sneezing. It hit me all at once, and I just knew – I was definitely coming down with something.
I dragged myself out of bed and started rummaging through the medicine cabinet. I don’t have COVID-19, because I did not have a fever or difficulty breathing. Nothing really stood out, so I decided to try some home remedies I’d heard about. The first thing I grabbed was the garlic. I remembered reading somewhere that garlic is good for colds, something about it containing allicin, which apparently does wonders.
I chopped up a few cloves and swallowed them down, trying not to gag. It was not the most pleasant experience, but I was willing to try anything at that point. Then, I thought about stress. I’ve been under a lot of pressure lately, and I know that being stressed out can mess with your immune system. And then I got stress and lead to the disease.
- I tried to focus on my breathing, taking slow, deep breaths in and out.
- I also tried to relax my muscles, one by one. It was hard to get into the groove, but eventually I started feeling a bit calmer.
- I made a cup of warm tea.
I’m trying to ease stress. After taking a short break, I felt a bit better and decided to tackle some work. I found that taking a few minutes to de-stress can make a big difference.
Progressive Muscle Relaxation
I started researching ways to manage stress and came across something called Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR). It sounded interesting, so I gave it a shot. Basically, you tense up different muscle groups and then release them. I started with my toes, then my feet, and worked my way up my body.
Keeping it up
I’m still not feeling 100%, but I’m definitely on the mend. I’m going to keep up with the garlic, the relaxation techniques, and try to get plenty of rest. Hopefully, I’ll be back to my old self in no time. Being sick is the worst, but at least it’s a good reminder to take care of yourself!
