Okay, so a few days ago, I saw this video about Jada Symone’s rice water thing. It looked kinda cool, and you know me, I’m always up for trying something new. So, I figured, why not give it a shot? This stuff’s supposed to be great for your hair, making it grow faster and stronger. Sounded too good to be true, but I was curious.
First off, I grabbed some rice. Just regular white rice from my pantry, nothing fancy. I rinsed about half a cup of rice, just to get rid of any dirt or whatever. That was pretty straightforward. Then, I put the clean rice in a bowl and added like two cups of water. I covered the bowl with a lid and let it sit. Now, some people say to let it sit for just a few hours, but I went the whole 24 hours. I figured, the longer, the better, right? You know I go for more than less, I want to get the most out of it!
The next day, the water was all cloudy and milky. That’s supposed to be a good sign. I strained out the rice, so I was just left with the rice water. I poured the water into a spray bottle I had lying around. Seemed like the easiest way to apply it to my hair.
The Application Process
Now, I will say this, my goodness, the smell was… interesting. Not exactly pleasant, but not totally unbearable either. Kinda sour and fermented, you know? I sprayed the rice water all over my hair, making sure to get it from the roots to the ends. My hair was soaking wet. I tried to massage it into my scalp a bit. Then, I put on a shower cap and waited. The video I watched said to leave it in for about 20-30 minutes, so that’s what I did.
After half an hour, I hopped in the shower and rinsed it out. I used my regular shampoo and conditioner, just like normal. I gotta say, my hair felt pretty soft afterward. I was actually kind of surprised. I let my hair air dry, like I usually do.
Results
- Softness: Definitely a thumbs up here. My hair felt noticeably softer and smoother.
- Shine: I didn’t see a huge difference in shine, but it wasn’t dull either. I will say, there was some extra shine, so that’s great!
- Growth: It’s way too soon to tell if it’s making my hair grow faster. I’ll have to keep using it for a while to see if there’s any real difference there.
All in all, it was a pretty easy and cheap little experiment. I don’t think this is going to become a regular part of my hair routine, mostly because of the smell, but I might try it again sometime. If you’re looking for a simple way to maybe give your hair a little boost, it might be worth a shot. Just don’t expect any miracles overnight!
