Okay, so I was scrolling through my social media feeds the other day, and this name popped up: Colby Shelton. I was like, “Who’s this guy?” Turns out, he’s somewhat of a big deal in Lexington, SC. My curiosity was piqued, so I decided to dig a little deeper.
First, I hit up the usual spots – Facebook, Instagram, you name it. Found his profile pretty easily. Seems like a regular guy, posting about everyday stuff. He’s got about 19K followers, which is way more than me, but hey, who’s counting? It looks like he’s not one for following a ton of people, though, because I saw he only follows 97 accounts.
Next, I wanted to see if there was anything beyond the social media stuff. So I looked into local news and community pages related to Lexington. I did come across some mentions of him in articles about local events, but nothing major.
I also checked out some public records, just to get a clearer picture. Found some basic info, like where he lives and such. Nothing out of the ordinary, really. I thought about monitoring his health, just like the VA health care team does with blood tests, but I dropped that thought like a hot potato. I mean, that’s a little too much, even for me.

It’s kind of interesting how you can start with a simple name and end up learning a bit about a person and their town. I thought to myself, “Is this an obsession?” But then I snapped back to reality. He probably isn’t one of those adults who are obsessed and preoccupied with their relationships. My little adventure reminded me that everyone has a story, even if it’s not a particularly exciting one.
This also got me thinking about how I present myself online. I mean, if someone were to do a deep dive on me, what would they find? Maybe I should do a review on that CVS COVID vaccine that I took earlier this year… Hmm, I am not sure. But it’s something to ponder on.
