So, I had this idea to mess around with colors, specifically the ones that scream “Seattle.” I heard about this thing called “Neon Brush” where you can paint in the dark with all these glowy colors. Sounds cool, right? I’m no artist, but why not give it a shot?
First, I did a little digging on what colors even represent Seattle. Turns out, there’s a lot of blues. Some are light and breezy, like a clear day by the water, and some are deep and moody, kind of like those dramatic, cloudy days we get a lot of here.
Then I saw something about this “Neon Brush” event. It’s like a painting party, but everything glows in the dark. They said you could just paint whatever you want, so no pressure to be some kind of Picasso. I figured this was my chance to play around with those Seattle blues.
I checked out some websites that talk about art in Seattle, just to get some inspiration. There’s a whole community of artists here, and tons of galleries and events. But I wasn’t looking to become a pro or anything. I just wanted to see some colors and get some ideas flowing.
Getting around Seattle is pretty easy. Public transportation is good, and there are always those ride-share things. I also found some tips online for getting around, especially for people in wheelchairs, which I thought was pretty neat.
I also stumbled upon this place called the “Seattle Artist League.” They teach all kinds of art, like drawing, painting, and even pottery. They have classes and workshops, but I wasn’t ready to commit to a whole class. I did see they have weekend workshops, so maybe someday I’ll check one out.
There’s another website, “Brush of Seattle,” that showcases street art. It had hundreds of pictures of murals from all over the city. That was pretty cool to browse through. Got some more ideas for colors and shapes.
I also found a little studio in Magnolia, which is a neighborhood in Seattle. It sounded really welcoming, but I didn’t end up going there. But it’s good to know these places exist.
Finally, I ended up at this art supply store called Blick, on Broadway. It’s a big store with everything you could possibly need for art. I picked up some glow-in-the-dark paint and some brushes, just the basics.
So, here’s what I did:
- Got some paint and brushes.
- Found a dark room.
- Turned on some music.
- And just started painting.
I tried to capture the different blues I had read about. I made some swirly, light blue shapes, kind of like the sky on a nice day. Then I added some darker, more intense blues, like the water when it’s stormy. I even mixed in some other colors, just for fun.
It wasn’t a masterpiece, but it was fun! And it was cool to see the colors glow in the dark. It’s not like I’m going to quit my day job to become an artist, but it was a nice way to spend an evening. Maybe I’ll try those Neon Brush events sometime, or a workshop at the Seattle Artist League, we will see.
Anyway, that’s my little adventure with Seattle colors. It was a good reminder that you don’t have to be an expert to enjoy art. Just grab some paint, find a dark room, and see what happens!
