Okay, so, let’s talk about the BMW Championship and the weather, because, you know, golf and weather, they go hand in hand.
I started my day pretty early, as usual. I got up, made some coffee, and fired up my computer. First thing I did was check the official BMW Championship website. But you know what, it wasn’t that helpful when it comes to like, up-to-the-minute weather.
So, I moved on. I checked a few of the big-name weather sites, you know the ones, but they were giving me those general forecasts. You know like “partly cloudy” or “chance of showers.” I wanted something more specific, something that could tell me if we’re looking at a downpour or just a little sprinkle, especially since it’s late August, and you can get the occasional thunderstorm
Then, I remembered a buddy of mine, he’s really into golf, and he always seems to know exactly what the weather’s going to be like. So I shot him a text. He told me about this weather report that he uses specifically for the BMW championship. It’s apparently updated each day of the tournament or something like that.
I took his information and I found something useful. It said something like “Mostly sunny skies are forecast this morning with increasing clouds later in the afternoon.”
- High of 91F – which is pretty hot!
- 20% chance of late-day thunderstorms – that’s not too bad, but you never know.
But then I found another report, it said something like “Mostly sunny skies are forecast this morning with scattered thunderstorms developing in the afternoon. Thunderstorm chances are lower than yesterday.” It seems to be not that bad.
Then I compared that to another one, an older one from 2023. It said something about “showers in the morning”. Okay, so, the weather can change a lot, right?
Finally, I decided to just keep an eye on the radar throughout the day. I mean, that’s the best way to know what’s really going on, right? So that’s what I did. I kept refreshing the radar, watched the clouds roll in, or not, and adjusted my expectations accordingly.
Conclusion
Basically, planning around the weather at the BMW Championship, or any golf tournament, is a bit of a gamble. You gotta use all the tools at your disposal, and even then, be prepared for anything. I’m sure those players are used to it.
