Okay, so I’ve been itching to make this Wally the Green Monster costume for a while now. You know, the Boston Red Sox mascot? Yeah, that big green furry dude. I mean, who wouldn’t want to be that guy for a day?
First off, I started by gathering all the stuff I needed. Loads of green fur fabric, obviously. I hit up a few fabric stores and finally found the perfect shade of monster green. Also grabbed some foam, you know, the kind you use for cushions, to give Wally that bulky shape. Oh, and don’t forget the googly eyes! The bigger, the better, I always say.
Next up, I tackled the body. This was the tricky part. I sketched out a rough shape on some old newspapers, just to get an idea of the size. Then, I cut out the fur fabric based on my makeshift pattern. I sewed the pieces together, leaving holes for my arms, legs, and head, of course. Stuffing it with the foam was a bit of a workout, but hey, gotta get that monster physique, right?
- Cut a big, round piece of green fur for the belly.
- Sewed it to a longer, rectangular piece for the back.
- Stuffed the whole thing with foam until it was nice and plump.
Body Details:
The head was a whole other beast. I shaped some foam into a big, round ball, then covered it with more of that glorious green fur. The eyes were a blast! I just glued those giant googly eyes onto the front, and bam! Instant personality. I even added a little red baseball cap, just like the real Wally.
- Formed a large ball out of foam for the head shape.
- Covered it with matching green fur fabric.
- Attached the large googly eyes securely.
- Topped it off with a red baseball cap.
Head Construction:
For the finishing touches, I made some big, goofy gloves and shoes out of the leftover fur. I even added a Red Sox logo to the chest, just to make it official. I slipped into my Wally the Green Monster costume, and what can I say? It was awesome! I looked ridiculous, in the best way possible. All in all, it was a pretty fun project. Took some time and effort, but totally worth it to see the final product.
