Okay, so I’ve been meaning to write about this guy, Geronimo dos Santos, for a while now. I first heard about him a couple months back when I was looking for some new MMA fighters to follow. This dude’s a beast, let me tell you.
First off, I dug around for some basic info on him. Found out he’s a 42-year-old heavyweight from Brazil. The guy’s got a pretty solid record, 44-23-1. That’s a lot of fights! I saw that he’s also called “Mondragon,” which is a cool nickname.
I started watching some of his old fights. Man, this guy can throw down. His striking accuracy is listed around 50% on some sites, and I believe it. He’s got heavy hands, for sure. One fight I watched, his opponent tried to take him down, but dos Santos stuffed it and landed some heavy blows. That’s where I saw that 33% striking accuracy, and also an 8.73 of striking defense.
- Height: 6’3″ (191 cm)
- Weight: 265 lbs (120.20 kgs)
- DOB: August 17
Then I stumbled upon some news that he was scheduled to fight Ivan Vitasović at FNC 7. I made a note to myself to keep an eye out for that one. I looked into this Vitasović guy, and it looks like they’re calling him “the menacing Croatian.” Sounds like a tough opponent, but I have a feeling dos Santos can handle him. This fight Arkadiusz Wrzosek in the KSW 90 heavyweight main event on Saturday in Poland is making some waves, too.
I spent a good chunk of the day just immersed in dos Santos’s fight history. The guy’s a veteran, and you can see it in the way he moves in the octagon. He’s not flashy, but he’s effective. And let me tell you, seeing him go up against Josh Barnett, that was something else. I mean, to go against a legend like Barnett, even early in his career, that takes guts. Even though, in that fight, he only managed 3 strikes compared to Barnett’s 24, he still held his own in other areas. I can see why people are hyped about him.
One of the things I really appreciate about following fighters like dos Santos is that it’s not just about the wins and losses. It’s about their journey, their dedication to the sport. This guy’s been at it for a long time, and he’s still going strong. That’s something I find really inspiring.
So, yeah, that’s my little deep dive on Geronimo dos Santos. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on him and see how that fight with Vitasović goes. Maybe I’ll even write an update after that. Who knows? I just know that I am really hyped for this fight.
