Okay, so today I was reading up on some baseball history, and I came across the name Babe Ruth. Now, I knew he was a big deal in baseball, but I didn’t know much else. So, I got curious and decided to find out how he died.

First, I typed “how did Babe Ruth die” into the search bar. A bunch of results popped up, and I started reading.
Turns out, it was a pretty sad story. He died from throat cancer. Man, that’s rough. The articles I read said he passed away on August 16, 1948. So, I dug a little deeper into that date.
I learned that he had this cancer for about two years. They tried all sorts of things to help him – hormone therapy, surgery, even some new treatments called radiation and chemotherapy. Imagine being one of the first people to get those treatments. Sadly, nothing worked, and he passed away at just 53 years old. That’s way too young.
They had a huge funeral for him that lasted three days. Three days! That’s how much people loved this guy. From August 17th to August 19th, 1948, people came to pay their respects.
Here’s what I found out, all laid out:
- Died from: Throat cancer
- Date of death: August 16, 1948
- Age at death: 53
- Treatments: Hormone therapy, surgery, radiation, chemotherapy (one of the first to receive both)
- Funeral: August 17-19, 1948
It was a bit of a downer to learn about how such a great baseball player died. But it was also really interesting to learn more about his life and the impact he had on the sport. Anyway, that’s my little history lesson for the day. I just felt like sharing what I learned today. Pretty wild, right?
