Okay, here’s my story about the Von Wagner surgery thing.
So, I started looking into this Von Wagner surgery because, well, my leg was messed up. I mean, it was seriously wonky. It all began when I took a nasty fall a while back. Thought I’d just twisted something, you know? But it kept getting worse, not better. Walking was a pain, and forget about doing anything fun, my leg was all twisted. So, I decided to see a doctor, I went to some bone specialist.
This doctor took one look at my X-rays and said, “Whoa, you need some serious work.” He started talking about this Von Wagner thing, which is basically where they lengthen your bones. Sounds brutal, right? I wasn’t thrilled, but I was desperate. So I signed up for it. They scheduled me for surgery a few weeks later. I spent those weeks freaking out, reading everything I could find online about it. Not the best idea, by the way. Too much information can be scary.
Getting Ready
- I went in for pre-op.
- They did all these tests, blood work, more X-rays, the whole nine yards.
- I met with the surgeon again, and he explained everything in detail.
- He showed me diagrams and how they’d cut my bone and put this external fixator thing on.
- Honestly, it looked like something out of a medieval torture chamber.
The day of the surgery, I was a nervous wreck. They wheeled me into the operating room, and the last thing I remember is the anesthesiologist saying, “Count backward from 100.”
I woke up in recovery, and my leg was in this crazy contraption. It was heavy, and it hurt like hell. They gave me pain meds, which helped a bit. I spent a few days in the hospital just getting used to the whole thing. The nurses showed me how to clean the pin sites, which was important to prevent infection.
The Long Road
- Then came the real work. Every day, I had to turn these little screws on the fixator, which would slowly lengthen my bone.
- It was a slow and painful process, but it was the way I had to do it.
- I had to do physical therapy too, to keep my muscles and joints moving.
- It was tough, man. Really tough.
It took months, but eventually, my bone grew to the right length. I’ll never forget the day they took off the fixator. It was such a relief! I still had a lot of rehab to do, but I could finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. It felt like such a huge step.
Now, I’m walking almost normally again. It’s not perfect, but it’s way better than it was. This whole Von Wagner thing was a crazy journey, but I’m glad I did it. I got my life back, you know? It’s amazing what they can do these days. If you’re thinking about it, just be prepared for a long and tough recovery. It’s not easy, but it can be worth it in the end. It definitely was for me!
