So, I got this idea to try and predict how Venus Williams will do in her next match. I’m not gonna lie, I’m a huge fan, and I got all excited about using some data to figure this out. It sounded cool in my head, you know?
First thing I did was look up her recent matches. I just used good old Google to find some stats – nothing fancy. I wanted to see how she’s been playing, who she’s been playing against, and what surfaces she’s been on. This took some time, clicking through different websites and all, but I eventually got a decent list of her last ten matches or so.
- Checked her win/loss record.
- Noted down the opponents and their rankings.
- Looked at the tournament and the surface (hard court, clay, grass).
After that, I tried to find some patterns. Did she do better against certain types of players? Was she stronger on one surface than another? Honestly, it was a bit of a mess. Some matches she played amazing, others not so much. It wasn’t as clear-cut as I hoped it would be.
Then I started thinking about other stuff that might matter. Like, how old is she now? Has she had any injuries recently? I went back to Google and searched for interviews and news articles. It felt like being a detective, piecing together clues. I found out she’s had some knee problems, which made sense given some of her results.
The “Prediction” Part
Now came the hard part – making an actual prediction. I took all this information I gathered and just… thought about it. A lot. There was no magic formula, just me trying to weigh all the factors and make a guess. It felt pretty subjective, to be honest.
In the end, I came up with a prediction, but I’m not even sure how much I believe it myself. It was more like an educated guess based on what I found. I won’t share the actual prediction here because, well, it’s probably not very accurate. And I don’t want to jinx anything!
This whole thing was more of an experiment than anything else. It was fun to try and use data to predict something, even if it didn’t really work out the way I expected. Maybe there are people who are really good at this kind of thing, but I’m definitely not one of them. It just showed me that sports are pretty unpredictable, and that’s part of what makes them so exciting to watch!
It showed me how hard it is to make predictions. I spent a whole afternoon on this, and I’m still not sure about my prediction. Still, it was a fun afternoon project, even if I didn’t crack the code of predicting sports.
