Alright, so I’ve been getting really into MLB The Show lately, and I figured I’d mess around with the difficulty settings. I mean, who doesn’t like a good challenge, right? Or, you know, the opposite of a challenge when you just want to mash some dingers.

Starting Out Easy
First, I started on Beginner, just to get a feel for the game. You know, a simple start, a feeling-out process. It’s a bit too easy, honestly. I was hitting home runs like it was my job – which, for the record, it isn’t. I mean i’m not a professional baseball player in real life.
Ramping It Up (A Little)
So I bumped it up to Rookie. Still pretty easy, but at least the pitchers started throwing something other than meatballs down the middle. I could still get away with swinging at almost anything, though. So, definitely not a long-term solution if I wanted to, you know, actually get good at the game.
Finding the Sweet Spot (Maybe?)
Then I tried Veteran. Okay, this is where things started to get interesting. Pitchers started mixing up their pitches, and I actually had to, like, think about what I was doing at the plate. I wasn’t crushing everything, but I wasn’t completely lost either. It felt… balanced, kinda.
- Beginner: Basically batting practice.
- Rookie: Still easy, but a little more realistic.
- Veteran: A decent challenge, but not overwhelming.
Getting My Butt Kicked
Feeling cocky, I jumped up to All-Star. Big mistake. Huge. Pitchers were painting the corners, throwing nasty breaking balls, and generally making me look foolish. I think I struck out more times in one game than I did in my entire time on Veteran. It was humbling, to say the least.
The Top Tier (Nope)
I briefly considered trying Hall of Fame or Legend, but then I remembered I like having fun, so I quickly abandoned that idea. Those difficulty levels are for the masochists, the people who enjoy suffering, the real pros. I am none of those things.
Conclusion (For Now)
So, where did I land? I’m sticking with Veteran for now. It gives me a good challenge without making me want to throw my controller through the TV. I might try All-Star again someday, when I’m feeling particularly brave (or stupid). But for now, I’m happy crushing (some) dingers and (occasionally) striking out on Veteran. It’s a good place to be. Though from time to time I am gonna try other options, but for now Veteran fits the bill.
