Okay, so I’ve been messing around with putters lately, trying to find something that just feels right, you know? I stumbled across this “left-handed Spider Tour putter” thing and figured, why not give it a shot? I’m not even left-handed, which makes this even more ridiculous, I guess.

The Experiment Begins
First off, finding one was a bit of a pain. Not a ton of shops have left-handed models just lying around, obviously. But I finally tracked one down, used, thankfully, so it didn’t cost a fortune. Initial impression? It’s… weird. The weight distribution is completely different from what I’m used to. I’ve always played with, some other models.
So, I took it to the practice green. My usual putting stroke? Out the window. I had to completely re-learn how to hold the thing, how to stand, everything. My buddies were watching, probably laughing their asses off, as I shanked putt after putt.
Getting the Hang of It (Sort Of)
After, like, an hour of looking like a complete fool, I started to get a little bit of a feel for it. The key, I think, is to really let the putter head do the work. It’s got this heavy feel, so you don’t need to muscle it. It’s all about smooth, pendulum-like swings. Easier said than done, trust me.
- Grip: I ended up using a sort of claw grip, but on the opposite side. Felt super awkward at first.
- Stance: I had to open up my stance way more than usual, just to get a clear line of sight.
- Stroke: Short, controlled backswing, and then just let the putter fall through the ball. No wrist action, at all.
The Results (So Far)
Honestly? It’s still a work in progress. My putting is definitely not better with this thing… yet. But there’s something intriguing about it. I’m sinking more putts. It forces me to focus more on the line and less on trying to “hit” the ball.
I’m going to keep messing around with it. Maybe it’ll become my secret weapon, maybe it’ll end up in the back of the closet gathering dust. Who knows? But it’s been a fun, if frustrating, experiment so far. I’ll try to update after a few more rounds and let you know if I’ve become a lefty-putting convert.
