Okay, so I’ve been trying to get better at predicting football match outcomes. It’s tough, but I figured, hey, might as well try and document my process, even if it’s messy. Today, I decided to tackle the Genoa vs Empoli match.

First, I just stared blankly at the team names. Genoa… Empoli… What do I even know about them? Not much, honestly. So, I did what anyone would do – I started Googling.
Diving into Data
I opened up a bunch of tabs. Stuff like recent match results, league standings, maybe some news articles if I got lucky. Trying to get a feel for how both teams are doing. Are they on a winning streak? Losing horribly? Lots of draws?
Genoa: Hmm, seems like they’re kinda mid-table. Some wins, some losses, a few draws. Nothing really jumps out. Okay, noted.
Empoli: Okay, they seem to be struggling a bit more. Lower in the standings. More losses than wins. This might be a factor, I thought.
- Checked head-to-head records. Did these teams have a history? Was one team consistently dominating the other? Sometimes this gives a clue, sometimes it’s totally useless.
- Looked for injuries or suspensions. Any key players missing? That can seriously impact a team’s performance. I jotted down a few names that popped up.
- Tried to get a sense of their playing styles. Do they score a lot of goals? Are they defensively solid? This part is always tricky, it’s not always clear from the numbers.
Making (a very rough) Prediction
After gathering all this, I kinda just… winged it. There’s no magic formula, right? Based on what I saw, with Empoli struggling a bit more, and Genoa having a slight edge (maybe?), I leaned towards a Genoa win. Or maybe a draw. I wasn’t super confident.
I wrote down my prediction: Genoa win or draw. super scientific, I know.
The Result (and Reflection)
So, i predicted Genoa win or * match is not yet over,so i do not know the answer
The whole process is messy. It’s a lot of guesswork, mixed with a bit of data digging. Will I get better? I hope so! But for now, it’s fun to try and document this whole learning process. Maybe one day I’ll actually be good at this!
