So, I stumbled upon this “Coach Pete Jenkins” thing and figured, why not give it a shot? I’ve been trying to, you know, get better at… well, a lot of things. Figured some coaching couldn’t hurt.

First, I dug around to see what this guy was all about. Seemed like he’s big on defense, especially the defensive line. Okay, I can work with that. I’m not exactly an athlete, but the principles, the mindset – that’s what I was after.
My Deep Dive into the Techniques
I started watching some videos, reading articles, anything I could find with his name on it. The guy’s got a real intense way of explaining things, but it’s kinda captivating. It’s like he’s right there, yelling in your ear (in a good way, mostly).
The first thing I tried to apply was his emphasis on fundamentals. It Sounds basic, right? But I realized I often skip the basics in other areas of my life, rushing ahead to the “cool” stuff. So I slowed down. I focused on the small things, the building blocks. Whether it was in my daily workout routine, working on improving my overall well being, I broke it down, step by step.
- First, stance. Get the foundation right. Sounds simple, felt awkward at first.
- Then, hand placement. Where are you putting your energy? Focused on that.
- Next, footwork. Small steps, controlled movements. I’m clumsy, so this was a challenge.
It wasn’t pretty. I’m pretty sure I looked ridiculous. But I kept at it. And, slowly, I started to feel a difference. Not just physically, but mentally. This focus on the fundamentals, on doing the “boring” stuff right, it started to bleed into other parts of my day.
I started noticing I was more organized, more disciplined, even in things that had nothing to do with football. It was like his coaching was unlocking something in me, a kind of mental toughness I didn’t know I had.
It’s still a work in progress. I’m definitely not a defensive lineman. But I’m learning. I’m pushing myself, applying his principles, and seeing results. And that’s pretty darn cool.
