Okay, so today I messed around with Wesley Bryan’s WITB (What’s in the Bag) setup. I’ve always been a fan of his short game, and I wanted to see if mimicking his gear could somehow magically transfer some of that skill to me. Spoiler alert: it didn’t, but it was still a fun experiment!

Getting Started
First, I gathered all the info I could find on his current setup. It took some digging – checking out a few different websites, tournament photos, and even some social media posts. I’m pretty sure I got most of it right, but hey, these pros change things up sometimes.
The Clubs
Then came the hard part – trying to replicate it. Obviously, I don’t have a sponsorship deal, so I had to work with what I had or could reasonably get my hands on. Here’s how I think:
- Driver: I already have one, so that was easy.
- Fairway Woods: I borrowed a buddy’s. Close enough, right?
- Irons: This was tricky. I ended up using my existing set but tried to adjust my grip and swing a little to mimic his style. More on that later.
- Wedges: Ah, the key to the short game!I did go get a similar one.
- Putter: I used my old putter. It felt pretty good, actually.
The Experiment
Next, it was time to hit the range. I started with the driver, focusing on that smooth tempo Bryan has. I definitely didn’t hit it as far as he does, but I felt like I was making decent contact.
The fairway woods were…interesting. My buddy’s club felt different, and I struggled a bit to get the ball in the air consistently. Need more practice with those, for sure.
With the irons, I really concentrated on that slightly weaker grip I’d read about. It felt weird at first, but I did notice I was hitting the ball a bit straighter. Maybe there’s something to this after all!
The wedges, though, were the most fun. I spent a good hour just chipping and pitching around the practice green, trying to get that soft, controlled flight that Bryan is known for. I even managed to hole out a couple of chips – beginner’s luck, probably.
Finally, the putter. I practiced everything from short putts to long, lag putts, and I have to say, I felt pretty confident. I was making my short, but it felt comfortable, it felt good.
My takeaways
So, did I suddenly turn into Wesley Bryan? Nope. But did I learn a few things? Absolutely. It was a good reminder that while equipment matters, it’s the player, not the clubs, that makes the biggest difference. And, most importantly, it was just plain fun to try something new and get out on the course!
